I went from Silver to Gold in October and finished the year at 61,630 PQM. My offer:

1,000 PQM / 1 PQS = $349
2,000 PQM / 2 PQS = $649
3,000 PQM / 3 PQS = $849
4,000 PQM / 4 PQS = $999
5,000 PQM / 5 PQS = $1149
6,000 PQM / 6 PQS = $1299
7,000 PQM / 7 PQS = $1449
8,000 PQM / 8 PQS = $1599
9,000 PQM / 9 PQS = $1749
10,000 PQM / 10 PQS = $1899
11,000 PQM / 11 PQS = $2049
12,000 PQM / 12 PQS = $2199
13,000 PQM / 13 PQS = $2349
14,000 PQM / 14 PQS = $2499 *
15,000 PQM / 15 PQS = $2649

I think I'll pass. Plat should increase my currently lousy upgrade percentage domestically (0/4 this year, but two of those were elite-stuffed flights to and from Vegas for CES), but that's another problem I can throw RDM at. Right? Am I missing anything here?

I'm curious about this. I have almost stopped flying and so ended the year at a little less than 18K miles. I got the offer for 8000 miles for $1249. Not going to take it, but why would someone consider this when for about $350 they could sign up for the Club Card and get almost the same benefits plus access to their club?

Maybe they have a poor credit score because they keep throwing their money away on frivolous and overpriced airline offers?

I don't get any offers - as others have observed, this is because I'm over 15000 PQM from Gold... but I can't imagine buying up at these prices anyway.

Wow that's steep.

It was years ago (4-5) that i had status on Continental but I thought they did a soft landing with me?

Got this exact same offer. I fell from 1k to Gold...ending with around 60k EQM.

recently purchased 30000 MQMs on UA for 3100

have to feed two high level FF accounts now - UA1k and DL diamond.
it took some of the stress off and gave me additional regional UGs now.

it's a shame that they are charging you almost twice what I spent and no rollover. :-(

if you ever need miles before the end of the year, just book a mileage ticket (assuming you are at the premium level where you can cancel without penalty), click add miles and choose the MQM mileage purchase upgrade. (three times the mileage being flown.)

then cancel the ticket. the mileage purchase remains.

Note that the price, for whatever reason) is different for different tickets, even though you are purchasing the same mileage.

watch UA, though. they require that a certain percentage of MQMs earned are flown.

So it's real close, but I'd rather get GPUs in trades on CC versus that spend.

Or simply buy via Award Accelerator for this year. I can get PQM and RDM for ~11 cpm. So I can buy almost 25,000 PQM/RDM for the same spend, and have status a year longer.

yeah I was about 5k+ short of 1K...

no way I am going to pay $2199 for 1K...Plat serves me just fine. I'm 2/2 on upgrades so far thins year.

If I fly international I buy business class anyways so an upgrade to First isn't that big a deal (although was really nice the two times i flew it last year)

And I'm 100% on domestic upgrades last year so not worrying about it this year

the enticement for 6 GPUs and 2 RPUs is there to lock in an upgrade on the flights that seem to be closer to full in First to begin with but not worth the $2199 they are asking.

Had it been something reasonable like $500 I woulda jumped on it.

Fair enough. Of course, you could have taken one more vacation sometime in 2012 and requalified...

Makes sense. For me, one of the big benefits of 1K was being able to upgrade other people (e.g., spouse, family). You can't let someone else "borrow" UDU after all.

Had it been something reasonable like $500 I woulda jumped on it.
Well, yeah, but who wouldn't?

As of now I am 1200 PQM short to reach 1K for 2013. However, I am fighting with United on some 500 PQM missing when they only gave me 70% of PQM on one of my NH flight instead of full 100%.

I also received the email, which has
$1 - 1000 PQM
$999 - 2000 PQM

No way I will fork over $1K for 1K. But I guess I can do $1 for 1K if I get the missing credit.

One of the things I find irritating in this is that for qualification .83 PQS = 1000 PQMs (i.e 25K PQMs and 30 PQSs to 100K PQMs and 120 PQSs). I'd love to see the 1 PQS = 1000 PQMs that applies here to return to the qualification equation, even if they up the UA metal quota from 4 PQSs to 50%...

I got this too. Was 1K for 4 years, then PremEx, then GM, now 1.5 years at Silver...

Total balance PQM at end of 2012: 42400
PQM/PQS amount needed: 8000PQM/8PQS

$1399 for 8000PQM

I got the "add PQM" offer the last couple of trips, but I'm 140K from MM and if I'm paying for miles, I want them BIS miles. I'd considered a MR which would have been $500 and decided it wasn't worth it. So now, at $1399, it's *really* not worth it.

So I'm still Silver.
