FAA has approved the fix.
Fix should take 4-5 days per aircraft. How quickly they re-enter service is up to the airlines.

Boeing Dreamliner cleared to fix battery, start flying again
http://money.cnn.com/2013/04/19/news...html?hpt=hp_t3
The Federal Aviation Administration cleared Boeing to make fixes to the battery system of the 787 Dreamliner. That paves the way for the aircraft to start flying again.

Till ANA & JAL restart their passenger flights I wont be setting foot onto any 787. They were the 1st to Ground theirs out of concern for their Passengers and Crew, and not due to the Japanese FAA grounding them. Most other Carriers would have kept theirs in the air till now if it was up to them including CO
I trust neither Boeing or any Carrier other then ANA & JAL

I had read in AvWeek that the mod center for UA is IAH? In fact, last week saw a 787 by the road with its forward cargo door open and a stand in front of it.

I'm astonished by the amount of people who don't want to fly the 787. Not just some kettles reading the news but Flyertalkers! You really think the FAA would say it's safe to fly if it isn't? There is a lot of paranoia out there.
I switched my late June DEN-NRT, (fear of having a non-desirable connect or a crummy middle seat), but as soon as I know it's going, I'm switching it right back.
The product is just so much better than the 777 2-4-2 config. Seems like a no-brainer.

My reasons had nothing to do with the battery, though. I rode that sucker for 12 hrs in Y (E+ even, IIRC) the week before the groundings and was SO HAPPY they pulled it before I had to come back, as they had to swap in a 77X on the way home.
It might be a great plane forward of Y, but in the back? Horribly narrow seats- it was like being on a 73X for 11 hrs. But if some other client pays for a better cabin, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try again.

Besides that Boeing suggested an 8 across in Y , CO set it up as 3-3-3 = you have less room then on a 2-4-2 777 or route yourself on a 3-3-3 777 if they fly 1 to where you are going. A Y seat is bad enough as it is, why should I subject myself to a seat that is smaller then the ones they already use. at the same time I dont care what the name of the Carrier is if they have 10 across on their 777s I wont be flying them either (hello EK, among others I believe)

It's also not so great great if you'd rather fly first class than pmCO's dated Business"First" product. At least the AVOD is high resolution

On an 11 hour flight, seat width >>>>>>> pitch (IMO). Being shoehorned into a ScreamLiner seat is not my idea of a fun flight.
