Received a schedule change email today for my SFO-RDU nonstop in December. Problem is, they changed me to SFO-IAD-RDU instead, and after some initial research, the IAD-RDU flight does not exist in UA's schedule or in other search engines.
What looks like a 1.5 hour layover in IAD could potentially be a 6 hour layover in reality, looking at published flights that were returned in the searches.
I know I need to call, with other options already in mind, but it's a bit baffling anyway.

I get that these happen on the weekends and that they get cleared up. My question is still “why”? How does a 787 become a bus. Someone with fat fingers entering bad information into the system?

Flight opinion??
looking for your thoughts on ORD to DFW on 3/23, the 1pm flight. Thoughts on how coach is completely booked? Expected plane change? TIA

I don't think they're blocking inventory due to an expected plane change, as there's no mainline plane smaller than the A319, and it's unusual to change a flight from mainline to RJ a month prior to departure. I think it's more likely that they got a big tour group or something.

Yes. The PN space could actually be used by a passenger already on the flight in order to upgrade; the P space could be used by someone flying something like NRT-ORD-DFW.
