Yeah, I understand marketing e-mails but
-- the city in the subject is a city I last visited 18 months ago and only visit once every 4-5 years?? certainty not my home airport city.
plus it was a city in the NE and the sub-title was "Plan your perfect winter getaway on United" -- huh?
And the subject line included just part of my name, without the family name. OK for me, but others find that familiarity problematic.
Marketing blast e-mails are fine, but this shows a fairly low level of competency.

"Duff, it's been a while since your last trip from XXX"
Yes and no. Many flights since then. Admittedly, not on United!
Why not? See: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...free-last.html
Looking forward to an HBR-article on this merger.

"Thunderroad, it's been a while since your last trip from Boston."
Yes, since I live in Oakland, it certainly has. Perhaps UA's IT somehow knows that I lived in the Boston area 20 years ago...?
Nah.

Got the same message, but at least they got the airport right (EWR).
It's only been a little over 2 weeks since my last trip, so I don't know what they consider "a while."
I also think this email was annoying.

Wife just got one and so did I.
Hers was for the correct airport. She has logged 10,000 miles and 4 segments in the past month.
Mine was for the wrong airport (been through there twice and never originated a flight from there.) Have logged approx. 75,000 miles and 20+ segments in the past 5 weeks.

Just got my "CO777, it's been a while since your last trip from Newark" email. Hmm...left from there on Tuesday and will be leaving again this Saturday, and then next Wednesday. I guess they want me leaving every day of the week.

Pretty bizarre. Mine was FROM Austin - a city I have flown TO exactly once in the last 5 years. Perhaps it was totally random. What marketing value does that offer?
In a strange twist, my Internet radio is playing "I'm ready for times to get better" as I type this in.
