Shouldn't receipt include e-cert redemption?
Recently I booked a $500 ticket using a $300 e-cert. E-ticket receipt shows the $200 addcollect for the difference, but has no notation (that I can find) indicating the e-cert amount, number, etc.
I canceled this ticket, and will be able to use its value toward another one (UA was kind enough to waive the change fee for unrelated reasons), but I'd like to have some documentation of its entire value, for my records. Any suggestions as to where I can find it? Thanks! |
once you clicked Purchase that eCert is History, = although you CXed the flights you do NOT get the value of that eCert in your case you blew a $300 eCert
so if the total fare paid was an even $200 out of pocket thats what you have in value to use for a future flight, sorry to tell ya |
Craz is correct. Different kinds of vouchers work in different ways. For an ecert - they are one time use - when you buy the ticket, the value is gone, and the ticket value is going to be considered only the amount that you paid in dollars. There are others, like the old UA type B vouchers, where the full amount of the fare was shown, with the amount off showing as a discount. For these, if you canceled, you could receive the entire value back in credit.

Oops - good to know, thanks!

I just learned this myself the other day. Perhaps it is just me, but I have great difficulty redeeming these ecerts. Often times, I can book a cheaper fare not using the e-cert than with it...something about the e-certs can only be used on certain fares. I so much prefer the old United paper certs where an agent could book you on exactly which flights you wanted, and then the total value was just deducted. I also am still unclear as to what happened to the old United e-certs that have no promotion codes...they seemed to apply the cert against the base fare only and could only be used on domestic flights (even if received due to problems on an international flight).
