It's not an older aircraft. None of these have the interior described by the OP.

There are four 737-800s (delivered new in 2010 and 2011) that have the Boeing Sky Interior (as the OP mentioned) and do not have E+.

There are 11 737-900ERs (delivered new in 2011 and 2012) that also have the Sky Interior and no E+.

All of these aircraft will be fitted with E+.

I've tried that strategy too but now 3x in the last month I've booked a flight with E+ only to have it switched out for a non-E+ flight 2 days prior to flight. On SFO-east coast flights no less.

On 737-900 #3450 with the fancy sky interior and no E+. Switched from an exit row on a regional jet leaving 20min earlier and definitely wish I hadn't. Granted its just SFO-SEA but at 6'7" I use every inch of the extra legroom. Bummer the seats show up as e+ (at least on the app seat map). Would definitely be upset if I had paid extra for this seat!

The seats suck, but for some reason, I felt relaxed on the flight, and also once I landed.. Must be the mooood light!

This was a brand spanking new 737-900ER

737-800 Economy Plus ITO-LAX

Did four searches here on FT and nothing useful came up. Seatguru.com indicates that E+ on this aircraft has the same pitch (31) as regular Y, but two inches additional recline. The UA seat map shows this 737 version to have 16F and 48 E+. My main interest is in more leg room, so any advice would be welcome. Is the exit row my best bet? Thanks.

Yes the exit row is your best bet as that will have a bit more legroom as compared to the other E+ rows.

Just found myself an unlucky recipient of one of these wonderful 738s, without E+....

Specifically picked a 738 thinking "its a newer plane, it should be a better flight"

Not a fun 6 hour flight from EWR to LAX.

On these birds, the confused other elites almost always take (or are automatically assigned) seats in the reserved section. I have never had trouble getting exit row or bulkhead seats, even on very full planes. That in mind, I've never seen any reason to avoid them.

I'm seeing a full E+ seatmap on the flight status page. When did you last look at the seatmap?

Im doing it from the mobile app on board (or was)

Maybe that doesn't show E+ ??

I was in row 2, and didn't want to salmon swim this morning to take an illegal picture of UA equipment - they might think I was a lottery inspector.
