7C or 21A

Never flown this aircraft in Y. 7C or 21A? SFO-ORD.

Passengers feel the door area is a great place to wait for the lav at 7C, which you will hear and may smell, plus no storage in front of you. 21A longer to unload, may be out of menu item you want, and increased risk of seat bumping/pulling by E- people behind you. I personally would opt for 21, but a potential tight connection might find me enduring 7.

7C has a great view of where you'd rather be...

21A it is, thanks!

RPU waitlisted. 6:40 a.m. on a Sunday, PN9, so there is some hope.

For a flight SFO-MCO I have to choose between 757-300 Economy Plus or First (price difference about 100$, I'm unsure after reading all the posts)
and a 737-800 Economy Plus.

Any newer suggestions which would be best? I do not travel within US often, so thx for advice in advance!

Let me see if I understand the choices here, for SFO-MCO:

- fly in E+ on a 738
- fly in E+ on a 753
- fly in F on a 753 and pay $100 extra?

I would fly F, and it's not even close. I think I have a slight preference for the 753 in E+ but they're both pretty meh.

semisecco Dec 11, 2017 2:18 am

Well, price for the flights are:
738 E+ = 470$
753 E+ = 430€
753 First = 530$ (price rose a little)

As it is a 5 hrs flight I wonder if F is worth it. I'd like to have more room and free movies etc.
Does "...it's not even close" mean that you think F is the best choice? Sorry for asking, but some expressions in English are not clear to me...

Thanks again for your help.

AirbusFan2B Dec 11, 2017 2:33 am

430 euro = $507 so differential between economy and first is virtually nill plus your bags will fly free, you’ll get a real meal, boarding privileges and a MUCH more comfortable seat and decent service for F-I-V-E hours, this is an extreme example of UA desiring to upgrade kettles aka high-value fliers, the decision is OBVIOUS. This is why there are no upgrades for elites.

semisecco Dec 11, 2017 2:42 am

Darn I'm so sorry.... 430$ (I'm used to the € too much...) But anyway it is very close...

Yes, that's what findark meant. And I concur. You may be used to Euro business. Domestic F is much better (at least in terms of comfort). It will be 2x2 (as opposed to 3x3 in economy) with 38" of pitch. If you can get 1A or 1B, the legroom is basically unlimited.

semisecco Dec 11, 2017 2:47 am

And the 753 is ok to fly with? Some here were complaning about old seats and no entertainment in seats...

Edit: Just booked the F in Seat 1A as recommended. Thx a lot!!

It's better than any UA 737, especially in F.

Seats are fine (esp. 1A) and be sure to get the United app ahead of time - entertainment (a good selection, usually) is streamed to your device in flight via the app.

As mentioned, I think that 1A and 1B on the 753 are the best (non lie-flat) seats in the entire United fleet.

About half of the 753s have "personal device entertainment" - you'll need a laptop, or a tablet/phone with the United app, and you can stream movies/TV on demand for free. The other half have DirecTV, which allows you to watch live TV or about a dozen looping movies (not on-demand) which is also free in F. People tend to have strong opinions about which one is better, but in my opinion both are ok (not great), although I honestly pass most of my time on planes reading an actual book.

semisecco Dec 12, 2017 1:03 am

Good to know, thx to all of you!

What do they do if you don't have a device to stream when they don't have monitors in the seats? Does United then give you a tablet or whatever?

Unfortunately nothing - if you have no device capable of streaming off of the plane's wifi, then you effectively get no IFE on flights with no monitors.

No loaners.

There are sub-$50 devices that have other uses that can be used for the streaming entertainment.

semisecco Dec 12, 2017 1:28 am

Booh. Not nice for those who don't have a device... But good to know, thx a lot!

1. Did you select and sit in this row?
2. Was your screen operative?
3. Did you purchase DirecTV?

I'm on UA2137 (OGG-SFO) on 4/1. I think we were on a 737-800, but now it shows a 757-300. When I look at seat guru I see one config for this flight/aircraft but for the same plane (757-300) on United's site I see another seat config. The difference is the Y cabin starts in row 7 or 9 respectively. Seat Guru says that rows 7-15 are E+, but I can't tell on United site, because a lot of seats are taken. The text says that only rows 9, 15-19, 24-41.

Of course, I was solidly in E+ before, now I'm in row 15. So is it E+? I called in and I got to a supervisor who said 15 was E+.... Looking at the text and the map, I don't think so. Sure seat guru says it is, but it has other parts of the seating wrong.

Is row 15 on that 757-300 E+ or not? If they moved me out of E+, I'll be hacked. If they lied to me about it, I'll go ballistic. Paid tickets for four, and the RPUs aren't going to clear...

Before going ballistic, be aware there are two 753 configurations and while the older one (this thread) is presently more common, with time the new https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...m-seatmap.html will become more common. At this point, UA is using a "blended" seat map.
Row 15 will depend on which configure you actually fly - mostly likely the old configuration in the near term.

Thanks. When the flight gets closer will the seat map resolve itself to the correct config? If it the new one, I'll be out E+, but there will be a couple of rows revealed of E+.

I'm guessing that if the config changes to the new, I can't put in to have my seats automatically swapped for the open E+?

I spend a lot of time and effort picking flights to get the seats that I want when I'm travelling with the whole family, so I'm not the schmuck trying to trade middles and odd seats. It drives me batty when something that I spent hours researching to find the best balance of fare, schedule and seat gets tossed. And what gets me even more is that after random seat changes, the lose the magic key and can't have some other poor schmuck get out of the seats I actually worked to get.

That and I didn't get a notification on this. My wife looked at me puzzled when I told her about all this and that I found it by looking. I told her I check seats every few days because of stupid stuff like this.

Yes, usually overnight (Central time) before the second day prior to departure.

Correct. Usually this is less of a hassle but with the hybrid seatmap they've concocted here, flying a 753 in Y is going to be a mess.

Midnight Chicago or local?

It's "overnight" - more like 3:30am - but it's based on Chicago (or Houston :) ) time.

PushingTin Mar 8, 2018 12:29 pm

The oddest thing is if the agent and the supervisor had a clue, they could have told me about the config issue and how it works. But that didn't happen. I had to come here for the real story.

I'm self torturing myself next Friday, flying in 40C ORD-DEN, as it was the only aisle seat available.:) No expectation of an upgrade now that I've dropped from 1K to Gold. Frankly, I will survive just fine, but budget an extra 10 minutes to get off the airplane.

It's going to feel like 30! Hope you still have a drink ticket or two.

I couldn't bring myself to stay in 40C when R space opened up today. Not the best use of 15K miles, but after a 6 day work trip, I have a feeling I'm going to be very exhausted and will appreciate being up front on this flight.

As you mentioned in your previous post, waiting for 39 rows ahead of you to de-plane would have been a poor end to a long work trip.

This older configuration has been completely "update" and the new thread is
