I just received my USD 900 UA airline credit, and reading the fine print:
"RELEASE OF LIABILITY
By accepting this travel certificate you release United; the operating carrier, and their respective employees, agents and representatives from any and all liability, claims or damages resulting or arising from the matters relating to your flight, compensation therefore or any related complaint"
Does this mean I would still be able to claim the EUR600 under EC 261? as the original letter from UA went on to add:
"If you desire one of these options, please let us know your preference and we'll facilitate delivery via e-mail within 3-5 business days.
However, if you still wish to pursue cash compensation under EU regulation in the amount of EUR600, please provide a valid address where you would like for us to send it. You will receive your compensation in the form of a USD check. Processing of your payment may take up to 6 weeks. "
Anyone have any experience with claiming both from UA and EU?,I assumed my choice was one of the 2 from United or claiming under EU regulations.

Just to clarify: you can't claim anything from the EU. The EU doesn't pay you, the airline does. You can claim something from United which they owe you under EU law.
No, United is offering you your EUR 600 owed under EU law or, if you prefer, $900 ETC which they would definitely prefer. It's up to you which is a better deal for you.
There is no one other than United to claim money from, though, so that's it.

Re: MAD- EWR UA 50 10/10/18 Cancelled flight:
Got a response back from UA, agreeing that I do qualify under EC 261/2004 and offering me a choice of:
1- USD 900 UA Travel Cert or
2- 27,500 UA miles or
3- US $ 600 in form of a check to be mailed out within 6 weeks.
Think I'm going to go for the 900 Travel Cert....
i was on UA's Customer Care site yesterday morning, I was pleasantly surprised at their very quick response!

"On behalf of United Airlines, we want to express our sincere apologies for your experience with flight 50 on October 10, 2018.
At United, we take pride in being a reliable part of your travel plans and your satisfaction is of paramount importance. When you arrive at your destination, I invite you to visit the following website to select a token of our appreciation. Please be sure to visit the website within the next 90 days and have your flight information handy. "
I didn't go to the link because I knew it was probably an offer for a small amount of miles or money and I didn't want to accept anything that might make me ineligible for the EC261. But then I read here and in a few places it seems like some people got both the EC261 amount and a much smaller amount in a travel cert from an email like the one I got. I was just wondering if I should look at the link they sent me now that they have given me the EC261 money. I'm not trying to be greedy, but if I can get both I will take both.

I'm the one who contacted Mauld, but that wasn't my question. My actual question was about an ETC offer that I got before claiming the EC261. I received an email from 'customer appreciation' on the day the flight was cancelled that said:

Note you did agree, in accepting the EU261 funds, you released UA from any further claims related to that incident.

We apologize for the issues you experienced when traveling with us. In order for us to follow up with you, please fill in the form below.
The form was just asking for my name, address, phone, etc. Too bad, I guess I should have clicked on the link before claiming the EC261.

Question on EU 261
I was booked on a flight from LHR-ORD-XXX. The incoming plane from ORD was delayed to the next day due to a mechanical issue. I was originally rebooked on a later flight from LHR-EWR and would then have to overnight in EWR to make my domestic connection. When I went to LHR I was rebooked on BA from LHR to ORD to arrive at 7:35 p.m. and put back on my original connection ORD-XXX, departing at 9:12 p.m. After reclaiming my bag and making my way over to terminal 1, I wasn't able to make to make my connection flight to XXX. I was rebooked on the first flight the next day arriving about 12+ hours late.
Would I be entitled to any compensation under EU 261?

I'm curious if your original flight was supposed to land before or after the BA flight...i.e. did your re-routing shorten your connection time or lengthen it? And was BA late? As WineCountryUA points out, they might point out that >90 minutes is normally enough time to clear customs and transfer terminals.
Assuming they approve, they should reimburse you for your hotel in ORD (plus transport to/from plus meals) if they didn't pay for it, and then your choice of EUR 600 check / $900 voucher on top of that.

Yes, BA flight was on time. Had to wait awhile for my bag. Then the security line at T1 was severely backed up and Pre Check was closed.
