reserving an intinerary using an e certificate

Hi, If i make a reservation and pay to put it on hold also using an e certificate without purchasing the ticket but then cancel the temporary hold will the e certificate be useable for a future flight? I saw this in the terms and conditions for the e certificate, "15.Fare Rules: All rules of the fare purchased apply. Reservations and ticket purchases on United.com must be completed simultaneously." I do know if I purchase the ticket then cancel it the e certificate cannot be used again per the terms and conditions.

I can be wrong, but from what Ive been told and understand is that once the cert has been Applied = you have a PNR its associated with its considered Used and is gone, even if not tkted

What did they tell you when you called and asked?

I am pretty sure you can still use it as long as the previous reservation was not ticketed. In other words, it is not considered as used when it is attached to a record locator, but will be considered as used if it is attached to an e-ticket number.

I have not called yet. EDIT: JUST CALLED. Sounds like using an e cert precludes making a temporary resrvation. When reservation is made it must be ticketed at same time. Even if a temp reservation was made with e cert and then canceled The cert would be canceled. Thanks for the responses
