what happened to the big/nice UA planes for transcon routes?
i do a lot of travel from ORD-SFO and am booking flts for next week...also just got back from a trip this week and it appears that afternoon 767 is gone, the evening 767 is the ghetto variety and most the 757s have been replaced with A319s...whats up?? ugh

The 767 is a boon to couples because of the 2-3-2 seating. TSMRSRNE and I welcome UA's freeing up these venerable flying machines to serve overseas destinations.

Yup im suprised too. They went from a 767 to a 737-800. I think we will see the 787 on the route

I'd rather see them make some more money and operate a more profitable business overall (which can only benefit us), instead of seeing them waste aircraft like this on short domestic runs.

This is hilarious. UA *finally* starts to get domestic fleet utilization figured out (i.e. they found a proper use for those longhaul aircraft that will make them more money than ORD-SFO runs) and people "hate" them for it.

Maybe on training runs in the first few months of operation, or (extremely unlikely) on positioning flights. Not a chance that 787s will become widely used domestically. who is hating? just not likin...A19s suck...better than the crap seats in the 730 |

What's a 730 - do you mean a 737? There are quite a few different seat types in use on that fleet, the newer ones in particular are pretty decent and the aircraft are almost all much newer than the A319s, with significantly less "worn" interiors and modern IFE in most cases. |

Well the post I quoted specifically used the word "hating" - hence the response ;)

However, if you really want to still on a sack of stones . . . the US Airways A321 is the winner. That's a painful experience in economy. Must have skipped the comfort package. |
Just picked a random Monday. It looks like other days mid week are A319's and not A320's.
12: A320 2: 737 1: 757 1: 767 You are right.....that is not a lot of "big" planes |

Agreed. The PMCO 737s have more comfortable seats than the A319s I've been on.

As far as efficient, I see 3 red eye flights between sfo-ord. That is not efficient. Better off sticking a domestic 777 on that flight. |
Had a DEN-DFW flight downgraded from an A320 to an E145 (not until November), so clearly there are all sorts of fleet utilization changes happening in the system. That one seems like a pretty big capacity drop to me but it's not a route I usually fly.

It's not just this route. My IAD-LAX went from a 3-cabin 777 to an A320.
