SN Codeshare flights

Newbie question - please don't flame :D

On an itinerary that I'd like to book the outbound/inbound tatl legs are listed as SN flight numbers, operated by US and UA respectively.
Booking classes are U and S.

Can I earn miles with these fares for my UA account?

Thanks in advance!

For mileage earning in *A, there are two things that matter
1) it is the flight operator that determines the earning rate (codeshare / marketing airline does not matter).
2) to determine earning you need to find the flight operator's fare code -- which can be difficult in most cases

However on your case, all paid fares on UA & US operated flights earn at least 100% RDMs and 100% PQMs with UA offering their elites 500 mile mins.

Thanks so much for the explanation.

I now have another question:

My intended ticket purchase is from CheapoAir.com and the price difference between them and other OTA's is significant.
Could there be an unexpected catch - in that I will not receive any miles for flights flown ?

I did some research on this issue, and t's a kinda gray area IMHO.
With some of the OTA's one will not accrue any miles and some will tell you to call the airline.
(And the airline will tell you NO ;)

Mods: If this post should be moved to another thread, don't hesitate to do so.

All paid published fares on UA earn miles. The one case you need to be aware is blinding bidding site like priceline or hotwire. In those case the fares may not be mileage earning.

Thanks so much for your response - I'm learning a lot about a kind of opaque issue.

I compiled a list of various online booking websites and seemingly there are some OTA's that simply do not let you earn miles.
Is this because they offer special discounted fares, that don't even show up on the mileage earning charts ? ... i.e. as stated on the MP earning chart:

MileagePlus miles may not be earned on certain United Airlines and MileagePlus partner airline tickets.
and

All other fare classes do not accrue mileage
And which would be the easiest way to learn the fare booking class on an OTA - just call and inquire ?

in the past there have been reports of certain student travel sites (or asian consolidators) offering non-published non-mileage earning fares -- don't know if that is still true. But standard online sites with Expedia, Orbitz, (non blind) Priceline, ... offer published mileage earning fares.

from the reports of others, this is not easy. you can try to call, phone service can be very limited for the online sites. Check if they have online FAQs addressing this issue.

this is primarily in reference to award tickets

Thanks once more for this great learning experience !

And now I guess it's becoming even more complicated with DL reducing mileage earning for certain "unpublished" fares.
Would "unpublished" mean "Not-Published-By-DL" - in this case ?
So mileage accrual will be limited to tix/fares sold exclusively by them ?
