Just when I think there can't be a new threshold for tacky and ridiculous on FT, I am amazed once again...

It must have been proud to jump ahead of the elites. Wonder when the shine will wear off the ball.

Maybe the guy was a GS and he gave up his seat for his ball. Pretty romantic if you ask me...

Was Bill Murray sitting in the window seat?

Are you sure that it wasn't this guy in the seat next to the bowling ball?

Honestly, if "Big Ern" from Kingpin wants to have his ball with him in F, he should be allowed to buy a ticket for it. If you're going to have a custom bowling-ball made with a rose inside of it, it deserves to ride in F.

Strangely, on the same flight, a guy named Carl was denied boarding by the TSA. He was packing a squirrel made out of plastic explosives.

Man, the gate agent who allowed the ball in F sounds like a real turkey...

Perhaps Bal,B. had status. Was Cel,C. on the flight? Keep in mind, it's not unusual for United to bump people for inanimate objects. I think the rules are:
- ToD upgrades
- Global Services
- Anyone on a Y, B, or M fare (in the case of 1ks and sport equipment)
- Any instruments
- CPUs

Tuesday night, was in 3a on a RJ145. 3b was empty, 3c was occupied by a guitar, which thankfully followed the rules and buckled up.
I have had mixed allowance on this on RJs - one FA encouraged I buckle my laptop bag on the empty seat (bulkhead row) while other told me that it is against regulations. Anyone know which is correct?

Bowling Ball can be used as a weapon, no?

How does the OP know that it was a bowling ball? It might have been a bowling ball bag with heavens-knows-what in the bag (maybe the cremated remains of grandma?). Though of course that would still be a strange scenario.

I would like to know the rest of the story. . .
Pretty sure bowling balls aren't prohibited. I have taken one through a few times. Stupid 50lb checked bag weight limit makes me put two bowling balls and some clothes in my bowling bag, and then throw the third bowling ball in my carry-on. I've never taken a bigger bag on for that, just a normal carry-on that fits in the overhead bin.

I have had TSA agents question it, but supervisors always clear it.

Looks like for next year, I'll make 1p, so assuming they don't screw us over again and lower the gold weight limit, I won't have to do that when I fly to Reno.

This is unlikely. United won't let my puppy fly in first even on a separate paid ticket. They're pretty strict about enforcing those rules.
