Nope...saw the guy carry it on as he went back to Y. FC had been full most of the day...there was a no show. Seems an awful lot of folks disregard the GAs' admonitions about limited overhead space on the 700s and head onboard with oversized bags (and bowling balls, apparently) that have to be dealt with by the FAs.

Was Bill Murray sitting in the window seat?
Are you sure that it wasn't this guy in the seat next to the bowling ball?
Honestly, if "Big Ern" from Kingpin wants to have his ball with him in F, he should be allowed to buy a ticket for it. If you're going to have a custom bowling-ball made with a rose inside of it, it deserves to ride in F.
Strangely, on the same flight, a guy named Carl was denied boarding by the TSA. He was packing a squirrel made out of plastic explosives.

Perhaps Bal,B. had status. Was Cel,C. on the flight? Keep in mind, it's not unusual for United to bump people for inanimate objects. I think the rules are:
- ToD upgrades
- Global Services
- Anyone on a Y, B, or M fare (in the case of 1ks and sport equipment)
- Any instruments
- CPUs

Tuesday night, was in 3a on a RJ145. 3b was empty, 3c was occupied by a guitar, which thankfully followed the rules and buckled up.

Bowling balls are explicitly listed as prohibited I believe.
How does the OP know that it was a bowling ball? It might have been a bowling ball bag with heavens-knows-what in the bag (maybe the cremated remains of grandma?). Though of course that would still be a strange scenario.
I would like to know the rest of the story. . .

I have had TSA agents question it, but supervisors always clear it.
Looks like for next year, I'll make 1p, so assuming they don't screw us over again and lower the gold weight limit, I won't have to do that when I fly to Reno.
