Need Help upgrading (instrument, miles or $$$) a reservation using an E-cert

Apologies in advance. I feel like this was covered before and I didn't pay attention.

Booked a flight IAD-SFO and using and e-cert. Can't seem to find the link to apply RPUs. One thought is that I can't use an RPU when I'm using an ecert. If I can, can you tell me where I can find the apply upgrade links?

UA website says "Once the traveler’s ticket has been issued, members can redeem Regional Premier Upgrades by viewing the reservation on united.com and selecting the Upgrade Reservation link. Regional Premier Upgrades may also be redeemed by contacting United Reservations." I don't see it!

Reservation is ticketed and confirmed. These are the links

.Flight: Washington, DC (IAD - Dulles) to San Francisco, CA (SFO)
View | View/Change Seats | Change Flights | View Receipt | Add E-mail Address and Request Receipt | More >

Didn't see anything relevant under More> either.

Thanks

If you redeemed an e-Cert you have to call it in for the upgrade.

Meh..Thanks for the clarification. Too bad they didn't disclose that on the website.. Much appreciated.

ps...eazy peazy... agent confirmed the RN availability and I was locked and loaded... Love FT and thanks to UA for having a very good reservation agent.

In theory it is a bug that they're fixing, not a policy, so I'm not so sure disclosure makes sense. Glad you got it taken care of.

I did the same with a PMUA cert and was told I call in for upgrade request.

Do we just need to call in for RPU/GPU upgrades? Are UDU affected by this?

No upgrade offer

I booked a reservation yesterday using a $200 e-cert through united.com. When I go to view the reservation the system is not offering me any opportunity to upgrade to First. Usually I can see miles or $ options for upgrading. It is a two-leg flight with R/RN availability on both legs.

Why am I not seeing upgrade options? Is it because I used an e-cert to bring down the cost? The flight is LGA-IAH-LAX (much cheaper than the ps fare for early August). Granted, I probably won't buy an upgrade as I might get it without "paying," but I'd like to see what the cost might be.

Because perhaps they are still hoping to sell the F seats? Don't think the use of the e-cert has anything to do with it.

Is it ticketed yet? You won't see any option to upgrade until UA tickets the reservation..it's usually pretty fast but sometimes can take a bit of time especially if there are partner airlines on the reservation. Using an ecert will not effect your ability to upgrade.

If it is ticketed and there's no upgrade option..then you can call to upgrade.

They said there's R space available...

Using the ecert can "disable" the online upgradeability using RPU/GPUs.

The flight is still upgradeable but you need to call.

note this does not always happen but often does -- probably some issue on how the system proccessed the ecert.

Thanks for the information. Did not know that an e-cert would ever have anything to do with upgrades, as I've never noticed this.

Not all the time. I was still able to upgrade using a RPU with a e-cert.
Make sure your reservation has been ticketed and if you still don't have any upgrade option call.

edcho Jul 31, 2012 10:15 am

For all my eCert flights I cannot see options for upgrading via cash (only miles + RPU/GPU).

Yes, it is ticketed. I bought the ticket yesterday and it ticketed within a few minutes. I still see no upgrade option today. And First is wide open on both flights two weeks out so offering to let me pay for the upgrade should be a no-brainer.

Yes, I could call to find the upgrade option but it just seems so unnecessary since I just want to track the cost of doing so.
