I just booked CHS-IAD-FRA-HKG and then HKG-MUC-EWR-CHS
The FRA-HKG and HKG-MUC are in Economy even though I selected First Class Saver award. Is this just a glitch??

Tried it twenty minutes ago (ex. WAS) and it was still showing 4 miles per ticket, BUT received the "call United" message in the middle of booking and then all reservations to HKG disappeared. Oh well.

It was to punish SQ for not releasing space for all of us earlier.
This was just for fun. I do not think it will fly (pun intended), but at the very least by booking from an account with 254 miles, what can they do? Just curious.

Quite a lot of flights had a "mixed cabin" remark below the amount of miles needed. Maybe that's what happened?

As others had noted all HKG searches are throwing errors and from what I can tell PVG/PEK stuff is showing correct pricing now I wish I had done a few more, but there wasn't enough time...
Full miles were deducted for one ticket though, leaving my MP account rather empty (it was heavily drained already by the SQ bonanza). Just hope there's not some other urgent reward bookings needed before this all gets resolved...

I thought I was out of luck when seeing the error. But when I go back and try again, it went through just 1 min ago. Got the reservation, no ticket number yet though.

so this is my Third trip to the msitake rodeo in two months...
forget about the SQ F as a DoT test case, this will be the WHALE of test cases for award tickets.
I think we can have a mini will this stick or not decision tree. I could create a Microsoft Visio Flowchart but too lazy
1) Whether ticket numbers were issued or not.
A) No ticket number. Sorry, no chance of it sticking.
B) Good News! Proceed to Step 2
2) Does your ticket touch the US?
A) No! (sorry, play again)
B) Congrats! Proceed to Step 3
3) Can this stick?
Well, the DoT does not technically regulate Awards, but the case that was being argued on the SQ one is that this is a purchase, which creates a contract. In that case (please see my 20+ replies on the United, Aeroplan and SQ forums), the SQ have been holding nicely. Award tickets SHOULD stick if normal routing (70k OW to Asia, etc)
Here is the dilemma, mistake fares (as in 30 dollar base fare now are stick-able) but no case has tested what could be considered a fat-finger fare mistake.
The "It will stick" argument is based upon:
a) Issued ticket number creates a contract and mistakes are not the users responsibility.
b) Contract of Carriage can not supersede regulation
It will NOT stick argument can be based upon:
a) Clear mistake, fat finger
Every blog in the universe jumped on this like wildfire causing a 10000% or whatever spike in bookings...
What can United do?
Cancel all tickets, guess what DoT complaints, time spent to solve them...
Honor all tickets, guess what United First is overbooked for the next few months... again not a possibility...

I know it's dead but is anyone have any luck with perhaps an obscure Chinese city or some other option?

United doesn't want to honor life time benefit.
Instead, they want to give you once a life time over-entitled award travel.
Good luck to those who get this ticket.
