E-Certs and PNR Splitting
I searched and couldn't find a thread on this.
I Just used an $ E-Cert I had received from United after an MX delay. After a great deal of phone jockying I was able to get it booked. The E-Cert was one of the #101XXXXXXXXXXX long string of digits one with no pin number or anything. As I learned from the CSR these are not usable on itinerary's of more 1 person, even if the individual tickets are more than the value of the cert. More than mildly annoying since now I have split-PNR's even before check-in, which means getting E+ for both of us at check-in has increased in difficulty. Just thought i'd share this heads up, not sure if e-certs w/ pin's have the same problem. |
This has long been an issue with PMUA certs, only 1 person PNRs - as explicitly stated in the T&Cs.. In the past there was some flexibility getting web support (but rarely regular RAs) to work past this limitation. Even then it was spotty, probably best with the special 1K web support agents. In this new world, my guess is most agents will stick to the T&Cs but occansionally you might find the right agent.
The need for same PNR for some beneifts and the issues of benefits limited to single person PNRs is an issue the new UA is going to need to deal with. Although the old PMUA certs will be history by March of next year -- so that is a short term issue that is likely never to be addressed. |
