No more UA flights to Taiwan in November?

No sure united.com problem or UA has quit flying to Taipei and from November only codeshares?

I'm not sure about current options but SFO-TPE will start up again (after a long hiatus) in April next year:

The rumor is that UA will stop TPE service from Oct until Apr when they resume
SFO-TPE non-stop flight.
In Oct, NH also switches their plane from 767 to 777-200 domestic configuration to support NRT-TPE market.
It's a rumor but it seems real.

Well, at least EVA should be joining *A soon, maybe their will be some coordination between them and UA between TPE and (former) UA gateways to to Taiwan.

This will probably be rolled into the other "New routes" thread.
NRT-TPE is cancelled as of Oct 27 2012
SFO-TPE starts April 8 2013
...So there is a 5-6 month gap with no service on UA metal

I also heard that UA employees will still get paid rom Oct to Apr but
I was thinking that they might try to layoff those people to save money.
They have done this to ANC so I won't be surprised if this were happening.

Now, I can focus on flying AA since they both only serve to NRT and codeshare to TPE. With AA, the VIPs don't have restriction while UA needs to be W or above. Even they said they will resume service in Apr but who knows?

Do you see only Y fare or you see all fares are available for booking?

Apologies, I was looking at the timetable and the route is still available there.

I think this is important news and warrants a separate thread.

I am not sure how many people UA employs in TPE. I had heard that the people in the ticketing office are mostly employees of a travel agency (GSA). Is this true?

The airport agents seem to be UA agents. I wonder if they plan to have EVA take over and have those people transfer to EVA? (Note that EVA airport agents are younger as the company tends to prefer younger people.)

I feel bad for the employees in TPE - they are generally a very seasoned and helpful bunch working in a tough environment - a product that is not competitive and the on/off routing changes. I hope things turn out OK for them. If it is a 6 month paid time off, it would be cool

I am sure someone crunched the numbers and decided it makes financial sense. TPE is not a high yield business market.

From the customer perspective, I don't think it is smart for UA to do this. Christmas and Chinese New Year are high seasons that have reasonably high fares. It will miss that. It will also really inconvenient the passengers who have put up with them. On the other hand, better do this now before joins *A and people who care about EQMs still have to do UA/NH.

United is allowed to share revenue and coordinate fares and schedules with ANA on this route.

My observation is that TPE-NRT is probably 60% Taiwanese and Japanese tourists - groups or individuals - and 40% connecting traffic. The former are not high yield and only a small portion of the latter are higher fare. So, it does make sense for the bean counters.

I just talked to the TPE office and they confirmed it. TPE ticketing office is actually a GSA (not UA employees). TPE airport staff are UA employees and they were told they will not be laid off.

Another problem now will be the commuting FAs - there are some Taiwanese FAs (used to have a TPE base) who commute to NRT.

Hopefully they will do OK when TPE-SFO restarts. Otherwise, I guess they will just put their code on EVA and call it quits.

Looking at the schedule, it does look like NH pushed back the TPE departure a little but still over an hour earlier than the traditional 1030ish UA departure time. Out of NRT, it is also earlier - more trouble if UA flights from the US are late.

These also appear to be the only NH NRT-TPE flights. The rest already moved to HND-TSA.

Now, the thing to clarify is that NH flights to TPE are actually operated by "Air Japan". There is no native "Air Japan" code on these flights (these are NH). I hope UA does not find a way to not award RDM/EQM/COS Bonus for TPENRT.

I kind of wonder why they're out of TPE for such a short time. On the other hand, won't this free up an additional slot pair in NRT for a while. Wonder if they'll use it for something else for a bit.
