I received the "refund" on 21 July, however it was only the taxes of the original trip ($140), not the double paid close in fee or call center fee ($100). Worse still, it was in form of a UA travel cert - since I am based in ACC and UA just stopped flights here I'm not sure if I will have any use for it for personal travel within 12 months. I responded to the original email and a few times to UA Insider stating that I'd prefer a CC refund or check, and for the full amount, but haven't heard anything anymore. Still waiting and hoping to at least get the cash back which I double paid. The extra miles are a nice gesture, but of course not even enough for a OW. |
Just to follow up one last time:
I received a reply from United Customer Care telling me that I should be happy with the compensation offered (10000 miles + $140 travel cert), and further messages from my side would not be responded to. UA Insider has so far not been able to do anything else for me, I just messaged her again. To summarize, due to UA unable to ticket an award - they cancelled it, refunded me the miles but not the fees for the unflown legs and I had to rebook. Customer Care refunded the fees ($140) but not the close in fee which was now charged again - and ONLY as a travel cert, relatively useless given UA doesn't fly to my base ACC anymore. I was also given 10,000 miles as compensation for my "trouble" (5 hours on the phone and a trip to the City Office). Should I really be happy with this? I guess I have no choice if I don't want to dispute the charges for the fees on my credit card - which might block my further life with UA or get my MP account cancelled. |
