Luggage question

I am flying on a United reward ticket class X ticket booked on United .com
I am a United Mileage Plus Explorer credit card holder with no United or US status.
Flying from CLT to SAN on US metal. Driving to SFO & returning from SFO on United metal for the first leg, second leg from MSP to CLT on US metal.
My question, checking 1 bag each way, will I pay luggage fee? And which segment?

On the UA-US flight, the Explorer card should get you 1 free bag.
On the US flight to SAN, you will be under US's rules -- no free first bag on domestic flights.
