Due to the length of concourse B, a connection under an hour when the arriving or departing flight is a UA mainline aircraft, is not advised. If you arrive on the far west end and depart on the far east end, then allowing for the time it takes deboard the plane, and the 20 minute cut off when UA starts to cancel seat assignments, you are unlikely to make your connection. Of course sitting in the front of the arriving plane helps as does having no green tagged bags.

However, if both aircraft are United Express, then a 45 minute connection is acceptable because all United Express flights arrive and depart on the east end of concourse B. Due to construction some United Express flights are utilizing concourse A which requires a transfer via train.

Personally I'd definitely take my chances and go with the half-hour connection.
thanks. I've flown through DEN often, but what I can't remember is if ALL UA flights arrive at the same terminal. Flights from ABQ are on regional jets, so i'm wracking my brain trying to remember if they park close or not to where the rest of the fleet's gates are.

Standard MCT (minimum connection time) for DEN shows as 50 minutes for domestic-domestic connection. However if you search UA-UA specifically, it shows 30 minutes. I have never missed a connection in DEN personally, but the timing is a little close for comfort.

As far as I'm aware, UA is currently entirely on the B concourse. The regional jets are all way up at the eastern end, so obviously if your second flight leaves from the extreme western end then that's your worst possible case scenario.

I had a quick squiz with Google Maps and the whole concourse is nearly 1km long (!). That's a long way to walk in a straight line without going outdoors, but it's still only ten minutes from one end to the other at a brisk walking pace. You've got moving walkways to assist you for much of the way too, so you can probably do it even faster if you're good at barging past the walkway hogs.

Consolidated "Connection in Denver Less Than 45 Min" Thread

United.com seems happy to sell me a 34 min connection in DEN (SFO-DEN-LGA). I am also seeing a 30 min LAX connection. Are they mad?

posted UA-UA DD MCT is 30 minutes for both -- and if flights are on time, it can be done but I would also prefer a bit more time.

Sub 1-hr at DEN are insane. Especially with the current unreliable UA. As an 8-year Colorado resident (about to end that next week) and a UA Premier for most of that, I don't connect at DEN much, it's more O/D. But that gave me lots of opportunity to observe the absolute clusters that occur. And the concourses are just as long for us locals!

One other thing which I mention often and one shouldn't minimize - if you are not acclimated to altitude, you may find yourself less able to sprint the length of a long concourse at DEN than what you could do at, for example IAD. Yes, we have slidewallks, but that doesn't always help especially if a group of kettles are blocking.

I taught skiing here for 5 years. I've seen firsthand people having way less stamina than they think when engaging in strenuous activity at altitude. A 30-min connection, on post-3/3 United? Definitely "strenuous activity".

Book a longer connection. Have a nice noodle bowl at Itza Wrap on the layover!

As others have said, pre-merger this would probably have not been an issue as long as the weather is good. With the new airline, it might be risky.

I live in Colorado and always connect in Denver when I fly coast to coast (I prefer to fly out of SNA and SJC to LAX and SFO). I have had dozens of 45 minute connections in Denver over the years and have never missed one of them. Walking from one end of B to the other is 15 minutes at a normal pace (10 if you walk fast).

In the summer, delays are more common in the afternoons in DEN due to WX. I wouldn't attempt sub-45 late in the day.

But nowhere near as bad as Dallas, Atlanta, New York and Chicago.

When connecting thru DEN always check your aircraft and you can usually get a sense for what gates you're likely to be going out of based on type.

Most narrowbody mainline flights are generally clustered around the central B gates - between say gates 30 and 44 - which are the first series of gates on either side of the central food court/train station area. Widebody aircraft use gates 34-38 in the center almost exclusively.

UX operates regionals out of either the trailer park (gates 59-79 for E145s mostly) or the dungeon (gates 80 and higher) on the far east end with E170s usually occupying gates 52-60 on the south side of the high B gates.

US and pre-merger CO flights operate out of the far west end gates 15-22 however these gates are seeing more regular UA aircraft now that operations are becoming more integrated.

If you're traveling on either mainline or regional aircraft exclusively then I would guess that your walking time between gates is generally less than 5 mins.

Connecting between UA and UX could mean going from one end of B to the other and is generally no more than a 10-15 min walk but could involve the worst case scenario of running between gate 95 and gate 15 on the extreme ends.

Remember if you're coming off a UX flight to add some extra time if you gate checked your rollerboard. This can add 5-10 mins on top.

FWIW, I've never missed a connectin in DEN although have come close a few times when my inbound was delayed.

So a 40 minute layover with no regional jet concern is a safe bet in Denver?

No RJ, inbound flight on time and you have a good set of legs to huff it, you'll be fine.

You'll probably be fine, but if it were me, I still would not book it if there is an alternative. I have sat too long on too many occasions at DEN while an early flight became a late flight because there was no one to meet the plane and operate the jetway.
