Due to the length of concourse B, a connection under an hour when the arriving or departing flight is a UA mainline aircraft, is not advised. If you arrive on the far west end and depart on the far east end, then allowing for the time it takes deboard the plane, and the 20 minute cut off when UA starts to cancel seat assignments, you are unlikely to make your connection. Of course sitting in the front of the arriving plane helps as does having no green tagged bags.

However, if both aircraft are United Express, then a 45 minute connection is acceptable because all United Express flights arrive and depart on the east end of concourse B. Due to construction some United Express flights are utilizing concourse A which requires a transfer via train.

I would not book that connection personally. UA requires that you appear in the gate area 15 minutes prior to departure, so, if everything is on time, that gives you 15 minutes to get off of your MCO flight and get to the SEA gate. If they're right next to each other, that's somewhat reasonable; if you land at one end of terminal and have to get to the other end, it's not.
I don't even fret missing connections anymore & having overnight stays. Just use a credit card that comes with the travel insurance. That way no matter who's "fault" it is, you will be taken care of.

In addition to the other benefits, the Chase MP card is well worth the $95 yearly fee just for the travel insurance supplied when using it as the form of payment.

This is a good point and the flights in question are quite late in the day and in July. Given that it's also right in the middle of Colorado's thunder storm season there would be a high likelihood of delays due to weather in the afternoon and evening.

I'll go against the crowd and say you don't have a reason to worry. While the concourse is long, it has lots of travellators and DEN is well set up for connections. DEN has very, very good OTP and the agents there tend to be proactive in paying attention to connections from other flights.

The distance from one end of Terminal B to the other (excluding Terminal A - which sometimes gets used) is approx 2/3 of a mile. They'll be boarding the second flight before you even land. Your bags probably aren't going to make it, and neither are you. There are always delays towards the end of the day, which others have mentioned, but which one's?

UA says that a 30 min connection is bookable, but the guy that programmed those connections has never tried to run that distance, nor has he stood in line half the night at C/S while begging to get a free room, which lately they don't hand out like candy, as in the past. Between now and July 27, 2018 there will probably be numerous schedule changes which may or may not work out for you, but do you want to sweat it for the next 11 months?

I've have 35, 43, & even 48 min connections in SFO (schedule changes on the latest sweep, this week) and I had EVERY ONE of them changed (no questions asked) after I told them that I'm NOT running from one plane to the next for UAL, PERIOD! ...and I'm not sleeping on the floor if the C/S person tells me there's NO ROOM at the inn!

DON'T DO THIS, Bud!!!

Responding to the post above me --- The rule is (and I've asked numerous UC agents) --- Unless there are 15 or more mis-connects (Called RUNNER"S) they absolutely WILL NOT hold a plane! There are exceptions, but not very many, so don't fall for the Ol' "Don't sweat it trick", because you'll definitely be sweating by the time you reach your already closed jet-way door!

Yeah, except both these flights are mainline, and there is a high likelihood that both gates will be on the West end of the concourse where it takes about 2 min to walk from door to door. Plus, the ground handling will be done by actual UA employees vs Simplicity, so it will be much more efficient and chances of bags missing a connection like that are very slim.

If the first flight is on time, there is nothing to worry about. If there is a delay, then it'll be a problem (though that could be problem no matter how long the connection is). The only thing that would be overly concerning for me in this situation is the fact that the flights come during a summer night in Denver, where thunderstorms that lead to delays and diversions are common.

OP, as the advice here states, this is doable, but risky. If it was just me traveling alone, I would do it. But if I was traveling with two small kids, I would not. As pointed out, if things go bad, you will be standing in a CS line begging for a hotel that will not be close by or quick to get to/from. Further, you don't know when you can get on the next DEN-SEA flight. It might be tomorrow AM, or not for 36 hours -- and needing 4 seats is more of a stretch than needing just a single. While five years from now, your kids may view this as having been an adventure, I promise they won't be so blissful when it is midnight MCO time and you are trying to sort things out at DEN.

I checked the date and now I understand. That connection in Denver is the cheapest option by $100 - that's $400 for your family. And there are exactly 4 tickets left at that price.

I say book it. You are a long way out and there will likely be a schedule change of some sort. You can work it out later. Save the $400 but as advised above, use a card with some sort of travel insurance.

I've had

No trouble flying through DEN multiple times on 30 minute connections on United. Usually the first flight has gotten in early and I've strolled to my connection, boarding on my arrival at the new gate. Yes it's tight, but the whole place is organizaed to handle this. I've always made my connection, as have my bags. I'd recommend this if the pricing/ timing works for you.

I say book it. You are a long way out and there will likely be a schedule change of some sort. You can work it out later. Save the $400 but as advised above, use a card with some sort of travel insurance.

I am not a US citizen, so all those CC insurance works differently for me.

Even with no delays, it is very difficult to get off the plane with kids (and their stuff) and go to another gate (even adjacent) in 15 minutes.

Based on the majority advice here, I changed the booking to MCO-IAH-SEA, leaving MCO at -9:00am, with 1 hour connection in IAH.

In case we miss it, I assume there will be much more option (even paid ones, if US doesn't handle my situation).

Taking into account that I plan to board a cruise ship the day after, I don't want to risk that too much, and have enough time for plan B.

Are there weather issues in IAH as well that time of year?

By the way, it cost me ~340 extra.
The last 4 tickets you saw are the ones I cancelled.....

If you're traveling the day before a cruise, you've definitely made the right call, in my opinion. Better safe than sorry; SEA is a nice place to spend a summer day.

IAH can have thunderstorms in July, but you're so much earlier in the day that (a) the storms are likely to be less severe and (b) you have plenty of recovery time if they're not. Plus, from IAH, you have a multitude of further flights to get to SEA if necessary.

There can be issues in late July with storms/rain and that is hurricane season. But there's really just no way to plan for that.

Generally, storms don't pop up till the afternoon with the sea breeze absent some sort of organized system.

One more question regarding UA policy:

In case my first flight is delayed due to weather and I miss my connection, will UA accommodate me on an alternative connection, or I should pay for the new IAH-SEA flight?

They will accommodate you on the next available UA flight. However, finding 4 seats on the same flight can be somewhat challenging, especially during the peak summer season. (Of course, seats can open up as other people miss their connections, and if you're able to split your party into two groups, that can help also).

They will generally not accommodate you on another airline for weather issues, although it doesn't hurt to ask about flights on Alaska, American, or Delta. (Don't bother asking about Southwest, Spirit, or Frontier, as they don't have agreements in place to transport UA customers). You could get a refund of that part of the flight if you chose not to use it.

As other people have said, watch for schedule changes. If your connection time shrinks to the point where it makes you uncomfortable, they will normally allow you to pick a different set of flights at no charge.

Here's a real world example from Monday.

I was going thru DEN and my flight arrived at 6:12pm at B31. My flight departure was 6:55 at B29. But I read the app wrong and saw the arrival gate of 67 and walked down to B67 then all the way back to B29. Still arriving at the gate at 6:35.

Now, ORIGINALLY, my routing was LAS-DEN-PHL arriving in DEN at 4:36pm but we diverted for more fuel arriving at 6:12pm. My actually connection left at 6pm from B41 and they did not wait for me eventhough it was the last flight of the day, there were no connecting passengers at the destination, and there was no following flight that night. My routing turned into LAS-(BFF)-DEN-SFO-PHL adding 10.5hrs to my travel time.

So yes it is certainly possible in 30min, but not recommended. If you do decide on a short connection, make sure there is at least another flight after it so you have some chance of getting home a decent time.

They will accommodate you on another UA flight. They will NOT accommodate you in a hotel if it goes overnight if due to weather unless you are 1K/GS. Or if its due to non-weather reasons. Always ask though

Set a reminder to check your flight at least 2x/month between now and next July. Look for a pop up telling you there's been a schedule change and do you accept the change? Write down the change (usually just a few minutes of flight time), then shut down your browser without responding. Then take another look at other options (including Denver). If you see something you like better and call UA, they may move you to the other flight option without charge.

If you receive an email with a ticket receipt, and it wasn't the result of you asking for a change, examine it carefully - it's usually the result some change in your reservation.
