Due to the length of concourse B, a connection under an hour when the arriving or departing flight is a UA mainline aircraft, is not advised. If you arrive on the far west end and depart on the far east end, then allowing for the time it takes deboard the plane, and the 20 minute cut off when UA starts to cancel seat assignments, you are unlikely to make your connection. Of course sitting in the front of the arriving plane helps as does having no green tagged bags.

However, if both aircraft are United Express, then a 45 minute connection is acceptable because all United Express flights arrive and depart on the east end of concourse B. Due to construction some United Express flights are utilizing concourse A which requires a transfer via train.

I would expect a reasonable agent to be willing to put you on DEN-SFO.

Yes, but note that if your ticket was for First, by the time you misconnect you may find DEN-SFO full in front. That is generally one of the downsides of rerouting your IRROPS'd -SJC flight to -SFO, although in your case it's not so long a flight.

IME, this is a serious risk whenever your F ticket encounters IRROPS, regardless of destination.

True, although subjectively speaking it seems more acute with SJC than other airports, due to the low frequency at SJC and the hub power of SFO.

I don't think it's new; I believe B14 is the very last gate on the even side of the B concourse. Of course, the gate could change five times between now and your arrival...

B11 is the lowest odd-B gate (they skipped B13).

B14 is the lowest even-B gate.

Either way, it's a long walk to the B60's gates.

connecting from AC to UA at DEN

I just booked a ticket YVR-DEN-STL on UA, with the first leg being flown by AC (technically Jazz). I've got a 52 minute connection time, and now realize that AC and UA come into different gate piers at DEN. AC docks at A, and most UA flights are out of B. My DEN-STL flight is showing a 737 mainline, so at least I won't have run down to the commuter gates.

Have others made the AC to UA connection at DEN, and does 52 minutes sound like enough time for this connection?

It's basically a normal D/D connection since you'll be precleared at YVR. 52 minutes leaves little room for IRROPS but is easy if the inbound is on time; the terminal train at DEN is very efficient. (I wouldn't try to be landside at DEN more than 60 minutes before departure anyway.)

I haven't flown AC into DEN, but I've made plenty of connections from A-B and B-A over the years. 52 minutes is fine IMO. I assume you will already be cleared in YVR so your AC flight will be treated like a domestic flight, if so you will be fine, assuming no delays.

Yes, AC flights from YVR are all pre-cleared. But AC does have one of the worst OTP records in the world, apparently:

AC now ranked "one of the worst performers" for OTP

Assuming on time, I also would not worry about that connection. It's worth noting that I believe most DEN-STL flights are on regional jets which often fly out of the high numbered regional gates at the far east end of the B concourse. Again, plenty of time with no inbound delay, but it can be a bit of a hike all the way out there.
