Due to the length of concourse B, a connection under an hour when the arriving or departing flight is a UA mainline aircraft, is not advised. If you arrive on the far west end and depart on the far east end, then allowing for the time it takes deboard the plane, and the 20 minute cut off when UA starts to cancel seat assignments, you are unlikely to make your connection. Of course sitting in the front of the arriving plane helps as does having no green tagged bags.
However, if both aircraft are United Express, then a 45 minute connection is acceptable because all United Express flights arrive and depart on the east end of concourse B. Due to construction some United Express flights are utilizing concourse A which requires a transfer via train.

Assuming that one's arrival and departure gate will be both on one end of the airport, 11 months out is ludicrous. My gate changed 3 times last week via DEN all while I was in the air btw LAX & DEN... and the final gate was all the way on the east side, and my departure gate to PIT was a half of a mile away!!
Just sayin", if the OP has kids in tow, DON'T DO IT, which he is now going via IAH!!!
GOOD DECISION, OP!!!^^^

Set a reminder to check your flight at least 2x/month between now and next July. Look for a pop up telling you there's been a schedule change and do you accept the change? Write down the change (usually just a few minutes of flight time), then shut down your browser without responding. Then take another look at other options (including Denver). If you see something you like better and call UA, they may move you to the other flight option without charge.
If you receive an email with a ticket receipt, and it wasn't the result of you asking for a change, examine it carefully - it's usually the result some change in your reservation.

30 minute connections, I do it all the time in DEN. And not even mainline to mainline. You can make an express to mainline connection in 30 minutes as well. I check a bag every time I travel. So far 75 segments this year. Haven't had a bag miss a connection yet this year. The only time I've had a bag misconnect in the past two years is when the incomin flight is delayed due to de-icing and the connection was down to 22 minutes or some such. Still made the connection. Bags get delivered to where you are staying the next day.
They may or may not hold a flight due to late inbound. Being on the same regional connection many times, I haven't figured out what the criteria are for when they hold a flight. Either way I just roll with it.
When I absolutely, positively need to be somewhere at a certain time I tend to minimize risks. Most of the time I can be a day late no big deal. Which means I'm one of the few people who doesn't have to stress out when things go wrong. Which tends to have the benefit of actually getting things to work out. If you're pleasant and calm you can get way more out of United agents than if you're frantic and agitated.

I NEVER book a connection less than an hour, and I fly a lot and know a lot of airports really well. IMHO - airlines should not even let a 30 min connect be a bookable flight. And UAs B concourse is really long - it's a 12 minute walk at a minimum.
One perspective (and I'm not saying this is you - but it's a way to look at it). Person A takes the short connection. Even if Person A's flight is on time, Person A is worried about getting to their next flight. Maybe Person A asks the FA to make an announcement to let 'people with close connections' get off first. Or, Person A asks people to let them off first because of the close connection. It's just kind of selfish - all because Person A didn't want a longer connection. Person B may be terminating in that hub, but Person B has places to go too. We all have someplace to be and no one is more important than the next person.

Glad the OP changed the schedule to a longer connection at IAH.
One thing that a lot of the more optimistic folks are perhaps not factoring in is how long it could take a family of four to deplane from, say, row 34 on a 739. The 30 minutes is based on arrival time at the gate, NOT the moment one deplanes.

Lots of previous discussion regarding DEN connection times.
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...ional-den.html
General consensus is 30 mins is do-able but not recommended if you're unable to tolerate a potential delay or misconnect.

An alternative might have been to sleep over in Orlando and start the whole trip in the morning.

Have done plenty of unintended short connects (30-40 mins) in DEN over the years, some from the UA express gates to nearly the other end of the terminal or vice versa and never missed a flight.
Only a few weeks ago had a 10 min due to the late arrival of our aircraft which luckily parked a few gates away from our departure. bags made it to our destination too.
Having said that I always try to book a 2 hour connection. Am getting too old to do Usain Bolts at airports.

OP has kids and a tight schedule on the other end. This makes a 30-minute connection a really bad idea.
Even if UA has availability on its next service, those are likely to be lousy seats and separated.
Short connections are great when you have a tight schedule on both ends. They can also save you money. But, that gets eaten up quickly with hotels & food and for the occasional traveler, a specialized CC isn't likely worth the costs.

No trouble flying through DEN multiple times on 30 minute connections on United. Usually the first flight has gotten in early and I've strolled to my connection, boarding on my arrival at the new gate. Yes it's tight, but the whole place is organizaed to handle this. I've always made my connection, as have my bags. I'd recommend this if the pricing/ timing works for you.
I book tight connections at DEN because my grandkids live there. If I miss the next flight, I figure I've got a chance to see them for a few hours.

My experiences are the opposite. Although I have yet to miss a connection, I've had to hustle at top speed from the far end of one terminal to the far end of the other several times. One incoming flight arrived one minute after the connecting flight (which was on time, of course ) began boarding. I got a "congratulations" from the gate agent that time as I slipped through at the very last minute.

Often connect here to Vail/Eagle and have had to run literally run to catch the flight to Eagle. Almost had a coronary with the elevation change last time. I was a mess. You come in east but the connection is west or vice versa.
