Exciting new PNR split / upgrade problem (side effect??)
 

So the wife and I are slowly burning our way through a series of itineraries I booked at the beginning of the year. Each one has been a study in the different ways a PNR split can and will go wrong, when pax are different elite levels. I've posted several other interesting ones here previously. (I'm 1K, Mrs. Darlox is silver.)

Today we returned from Canada. The flights outbound were RJs with no chance of upgrade. Yet after a schedule change, the PNRs were split anyhow.

Today, when we checked in, the desk agents could not get my wife on the upgrade list for love or money. The lovely Canadian agents apologized and told us to check in EWR. Once there, the club agents were equally unable, but found a SSR (special service request) on my wife's record stating "do not upgrade" and were unable to remove it. I call the 1K line, and the agent is able to remove it (with the comment "we're starting to see these all the time").

Back to the desk, and the agent is able to add my wife as a 1k companion.

But then, as I was previously #1 on the ug list, I drop to #10, with the wife as #11. Agent sees this too, and cannot explain. He tries to bump us back to #1, and could do me but not her. Removes and re-adds her, and we drop to #10/11, where we remain.

Maybe screwy PNR, maybe screwy SSRs getting added during a split, and maybe yet another "companion" glitch, pulling 1k down to silver level, rather than vice-versa.

Either way, i just count myself lucky we're both making it home on the same flight this time!!
