764 iah-bal-iah?

I’m on UA 557 right now IAH-EWR on a 764 and I noticed that the aircraft did an IAH-BAL-IAH turn over the weekend. Seatmap shows only a few seats occupied for each flight and no upgrades. Charter for the Houston Texans perhaps? But why the few seats showing as occupied?
[Mods if there’s a generic charter thread please merge. Thanks.]

Yes, this was a Texans charter. 764s are used for a bunch of United's NFL work. Charter flights won't show actual seat assignments in the app.

Make sure to check the "Voices" page of the hemisphere magazine and see if any of them signed it ;-)

That explains the stench in the aircraft of utter defeat. 😜

Maybe they should've listed WAT, D on the economy standby list until right before departure to make him sweat it a bit.

Anyone know what this bird (N783UA) has been doing? Seems to be ferrying from SFO-FAI, FAI-RIV, RIV-SFO?

Dont think this is any kind of sports charter it being a 777. It was a one-way Fairbanks to Riverside.

Maybe military charter bringing troops back from cold weather training?

Exactly. I wasn't going toward sports - not sure why the mods put the posts here....

UA 2557 IAD-IAh

Happen to be in the C17 UC at IAD and noticed this flight. It’s a 772 and appears to have been running an odd routing the last few days of iAD-IAH-LIM-IAD. The LIM-IAD and IAD-IAH segments show empty seat maps indicative of a charter yet the IAH-LIM segments show pretty full seat maps (even though a search for flights by city between IAH-LIM shows no flights). Any ideas?

Makes sense but why the IAD-IAH segments and why the pretty full seat maps on IAH-LIM?

So that a single augmented crew can do the full IAH-LIM-IAD in one duty period without anybody laying over in LIM.

Better hope there isn't even a slight departure delay on the return!

I'm surprised that the FAA and unions aren't allowing, as an emergency measure, airlines to fly one way with the return crew deadheading/resting in lie-flat seats, doing an immediate turn, and then the outbound crew deadheading/resting on the return.

I know that's against FAA rest rules and most union contracts, but given the circumstances you think everyone would be happier just to get home and not lay over in a foreign country / not even have to leave the plane, possibly.

It's flown with a crew of four pilots. That gives them enough flight and duty time for the trip.
