I want to be on the first UA 787 flight

So I want to be on the first UA 787 Flight from DEN-NRT and then fly on the return flight Can I do this or will United be mad and not let me. The Flight from DEN lands at three and goes Back to DEN at 4:40 pm
Thanks

Just so you know - that flight may be the first official int'l 787 flight for UA, but there likely will be domestic ones in the month before that

Don't see why you couldn't just do a MR on it though. Lot of time in Y though!

You go right ahead, they'll be thrilled to have you.

Safe travels!

Side note: why on earth would you think 'they'd be mad and not let you'?

Oh true on the Domestic flights but they I assume would be on IAD-HNL or EWR-HNL or ORD-Hawaii for ETOPS proving if they have to prove to be ETOPS capable if every type of twin has to be ETOPS cleared first even if Airline is ETOPS certified on the 757 767 777 fleets

Yup ... you can most certainly do this as transiting NRT is pretty easy.

If you're interested in spending a little time in Tokyo and just want to be in one of the first few scheduled United 787 flights, though, United has a great fare sale going on for the DEN-NRT roundtrip ... for travel between 4/1 and 4/24, United is selling B fares on that route for $980 roundtrip (minimum stay of 3 days). It nets 17,364 EQM and 14,470 RDM ... and because it's a B fare, you can upgrade with miles without a co-pay (although the upgrade inventory is 0'd out right now).

The B fare is gone. But the fare is still $980... it's just now an S fare (still must be ticketed by tomorrow 5/24). However it requires a 3 day minimum stay so a round trip same day turn isn't going to work for that fare.

No. You would follow the signs for a flight transfer and reclear security. No immigration.

D'oh ... still a good deal as an S fare, but it was a great deal when it booked into B.

Perhaps. However, COdbaUA has not announced when that route is supposed to take off (no pun intended).

Not necessarily.. here's an article about that..

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/...tional-flights

It's still possible there will be other routes that come before DEN-NRT that just haven't been announced yet. I thought UA was to get 5 787's delivered in 2012...but maybe that has changed.

WSJ says six deliveries in 2012 (with the first coming in September), but only five will enter service by the end of the year. I imagine we'll see a lot of 757 and 767 flights swapped until they enter regular service.
