Just imagine the horror if you try to enter with Amtrak S+/SE card...

Pilot says

“Minor maintenance issues here, one with the front landing tire, and another with a lightening rod feature on the tail. Who knows where it fell off? Oh well, hopefully we can get signed off on it soon.”

A few minutes later the update is:

“Maintenance says the tire is good for three or four more landings. Of course, we expect one in Newark, so we should be good there. Once we get paperwork signed we’ll be underway.”

Where's the whopper?
Maintenance looked at the tire in accordance with approved tire inspection criteria and deemed it airworthy. That's both ethical and legal.
Then, they MEL'd the Static Wick. That's both ethical and legal.
Then you got to your destination basically on time.
Everyone wins.
P.S., I'm an airline mechanic, and that's exactly what I would have done.

Depends on how you define whopper. I thought it was rather funny - not misleading or anything, just humorous and therefore a whopper in my books.

From https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/whopper :

Definition of whopper
1: something unusually large or otherwise extreme of its kind
2: an extravagant or monstrous lie

I wish I had a nickel for every time I have said to myself before I Key the mic, “ what could I possibly say that these people would believe?”.

If you all all knew how convoluted things get that are actually happening but far too complicated to explain a 15 second PA announcement....

Can the cockpit hear, or do they bother listening to the FA announcements?

After a rather hard landing at VPS

I’m going to use that next thrasher landing I make. Or blame it on the F/O. Or, “Folks, that wasn’t my fault or the copilots fault...that was the asphalt.

Trust me, we couldn’t care less what the FA’s think of our landing.

I think we are supposed to refer to it as tarmac from reading another thread....or was it the other way around? Either way I am sure that using tarmac couldn't possibly upset anyone!

This is not a whopper in the typical sense but on a mainline flt to DEN today FA comes on the PA during boarding and sings Deck the halls for a good couple minutes. At least until boarding was complete.
