Award Ticketing Question
 
I am trying to find a way to get by the $25 phone charge but I have a question:

I am trying to fly from Okayama, Japan (OKJ) to LAX. I see that the UA search engine can now search and book transpacific flights on NH (namely HND-LAX), however, the Japanese domestic segment (OKJ-HND) still can't be booked online at this moment.

Then, I notice that United does not charge you for adding a connection to your award ticket. So I was wondering if I book HND-LAX online then call the reservation desk to add the OKJ-HND segment, would I need to pay the $25 phone charge?

Has anyone had similar experience?

I rang up to book a award ticket when I wasn't able to get the routing online. They waved the fee as I was unable to do it online. This was pmco

They will if you are changing the O/D city pair, which you are.
