How bad is the 763 Ghetto Bird?

It looks like they are running it EWR-SFO in June...
I've never been on one of these and it looks like a fairly easy upgrade since there are so many FC seats.

depends on what your expectations are -- see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...solidated.html for discussions of that aircraft.

You would think easy upgrade, but I have NEVER gotten an upgrade on a the class 767. Its almost always hub to hub and full of elites. Always seems like it is LAX-IAD or ORD, and I never get those as a gold.

I was on one last month and it seemed the E+ seats had extra recline compared to other planes which i thought was kind of odd.

Hmmm, I don't know. There is about 2 inches more legroom than E+, but the seats are noticeably more narrow than the FC seats in rest of the PMUA domestic fleet. Even the 319s are better, and I hate that plane with a passion!

I guess I agree with you, except if you can get an exit row seat. In that case, I'd actually turn down an F upgrade.

OP, I say to look for a 757, 777, or 319/320 (gack, I can't believe i said that)and book that itin!

Bingo! Most narrow first class seats in the mainline fleet. And seats in the center section have boxes in the way of proper legroom.

(bolding mine).

Indeed. It's as if it's really more like E++ than FC.

The FC seats are only one inch wider than the ones in Y and there are only 3 mroe inches of legroom than in E+...

They also have an awesome 400Hz whine on Channel 9.

It's the domestically configured UA 767-300.

It's nicknamed the ghetto bird because it is both lacking a plush seating arrangement and the interiors are generally quite dated and shabby.

Only comment I'd make WRT the 763 redeye is if you are confirmed into E+ exit row - and there are no others in your row, you'll freeze.

As a 1P/*G, took the LAX-IAD redeye last year and 1) did not get upgraded and 2) was in the E+ exit row all by myself. The combination of no others between me and the door as well as the slow leak of air around the door seal and no radiative insulation between me and the door made the flight not terribly restful. I quite frankly froze.

We took it from SFO-OGG las month and really didn't mind sitting in Exit Row 21. Greatly prefer the 2-3-2 configuration than any three seat row. Exit row 20 from ORD-SFO was also equally enjoyable.

Exit Row 21 is great -- more legroom than F. LOL

I'll tolerate the g-bird for a transcon or West Coast to/from Hawaii. That's about it.
