Hi Everyone, obviously I'm a lilttle late to the game here, but, as you can see, today we’ll officially be introducing the new United MileagePlus Club Card. I know there’s been speculation on this, and I’m sure there will be follow-up questions. To start, here are some key highlights of the United MileagePlus Club Card:
  • As the card name suggests, a full United Club membership is included. If you already have a United Club membership, once approved for the card, you’ll be refunded for any unused portion of your membership as long as the refund is $15 or more (the refund is applicable to annual and three year memberships)

  • There are some key benefits, too. Just like our Presidential Plus Card, the new Club Card is designed to enhance your total travel experience. Here’s a list of the benefits (details for each can be found here):
  • Earn 50% more miles on ALL purchases. This is a new benefit. Cardmembers will earn at least 50% more miles on all purchases with the new Club Card. Specifically, for each $1 spent, Cardmembers will earn 1.5 miles, and when purchasing United tickets, the miles jump to 2 miles for every $1 spent on tickets
  • Free first and second standard checked bags for the Cardmember and one companion
  • Premier Access travel services, including priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling
  • Book award tickets close to the departure date without a fee. We’ll waive the fee for booking award tickets 21 days or less prior to departure. This benefit is reserved for certain Cardmembers and certain Premier levels
  • Get complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members). Cardmembers who are also Premier members will be eligible to receive their complimentary upgrade benefits (where available) even when traveling on an award ticket in economy class
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Cardmembers will have access to last-seat award availability (applicable to general members)
  • As a Cardmember, miles don’t expire
  • Invitation to special Avis benefits and Hyatt Platinum Elite status
  • Inside Access from Chase. As a Cardmember, you will be delighted with opportunities to attend private, curated, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Visit InsideAccess.com to learn about upcoming events
  • Access to the Chase’s Luxury Hotels and Resorts Collection special rates and benefits
  • Premier travel and purchase protection, including primary auto rental collision damage coverage
  • 24/7 Concierge Services

For those of you who already have a credit card with Chase, here’s some more information:

  • Already have a Mileage Plus Club Visa Card? You’ll find that the key differences are that the new Club Card has the added benefits of free checked bags, Premier Access, 50% mileage bonus on all purchases, award tickets close to departure date without a fee and complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members where available). The new Club Card does not award Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases. More specific information about your current card and the new Club Card will arrive in the mail in late April

  • Already have the Presidential Plus Card? The key difference is that the Presidential Plus Card awards Flexible Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases whereas the new Club Card awards a 50% mileage bonus on all purchases. Both cards earn 2 miles for every $1 spent on United tickets. If you’re interested in changing over to the new Club Card, simply call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options. While the Presidential Plus Card and its benefits will continue, we are not taking any additional applications for new Presidential Plus accounts

  • Already have another United card from Chase? If you currently have another United card from Chase and want to switch, call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options

For a full list of details, and to apply for the new Club Card, please visit MileagePlusClub.com.

As always, please let us know your questions.

How long after applying for the card before I have UC access?
Chase / UA states (Offer Details)
Please allow 2 weeks after account open date for the United Club membership to activate
but it usually is quicker. At UCs, much of the time they will see it in under a week. *A lounges may require the physical card which may take 4-6 weeks. Those accepting the virtual card should work about the same as UCs.

Does the waiving of last minute booking fees for awards apply when i'm making last minute award reservations for spouse and kids using my MP account?

I assume it does, but would like confirmation.

Thanks,

Flex EQMs

I got my welcome packet on Friday, also with the promise of Flex EQMs in the welcome letter.

What makes me think they may actually be included is "Flexible Premier Miles: 0" started showing up on my MP account page. I don't think that line was there before.

Well that would definitely be the final nail in the coffin for flying UA. If can get elite benefits on any airline through a card then they become your back up airline and work on elite status with another to broaden options.

A question for those of you that received the letter saying that you get Flex EQMs with the new UA Club card. Did you transfer from a CO/UAPP card or is this a new application?

I am almost certain that they will charge you regardless of activation. There may also be an activation deadline.

OK, there is definitely a bit of confusion. UA Insiders post makes it sound pretty clear that the new card should not include Flex PQMs...but others here seem to think otherwise based on the letter they received with the card. A typo maybe???

perhaps UA/Chase is being very liberal with the cutover date for grandfathering people, and people who applied for the card near the introduction date are still being considered as having applied under the old terms.

Card doesn't seem to be made of metal - doesn't 'ting' on a piece of metal but it isn't a flimsy plastic card. There seems to be a piece of metal between two pieces of plastic, maybe?

It is definitely the nicest card in my pocket at the moment.

Made the call and switched cards. CSA stated that the $95 statement credit would not be applied since I already have a chase card issued from the CO days. Didn't care enough to fight for it. Apparently the statement credit is for new chase customers.

I will use as a secondary card and put about 25K a month on the card. So the 1.5x miles are worth it for me. I also do not have any status on UA, so for the few times a year I fly domestically the lounge privileges, etc will be nice. I also make award tickets at the last minute typically so the waving of fees will be another benefit which I will use.

Waived annual fee first year with offer in club

I saw this thread last week and also couldn't find the offer for waived annual fee. Then I had a trip this weekend - though not currently a member, I'm *G and was headed to YYZ so I had access to the Club at ORD.

Ironically, they have advertising all over the United Club advertising the new card, along with a brochure containing an offer code that allows your annual fee waived the first year. It sends you to this site:

http://www.clubcardrsvp.com/

So, you'll have to go to the club to get the offer code, but I'm guessing you could ask them for one even if you can't get in as a member.

Unfortunately I was NOT able to get chase to convert my existing MP Visa card over to the club card, so I had to reapply. But, Chase does make it pretty easy by pre-filling the app when you login with your existing Chase.com credentials.

Can anyone verify this? I will be all over this card if the $400 fee is waived for the first year....doesn't seem quite right to me.

What is there to verify? You can click on the link I posted and see right in there that the code obtainable from the club will waive the annual fee for the first year.

I've added the strike through the actual code I used:

Note that it seems these will be valid for another couple months.

Fee waived after logging into Chase and United...seems to be tied to status.

Yes, see post #145 of this thread, page 10.
If you are logged into the UA site and you go to the Chase offer, it should work.
