Hi Everyone, obviously I'm a lilttle late to the game here, but, as you can see, today we’ll officially be introducing the new United MileagePlus Club Card. I know there’s been speculation on this, and I’m sure there will be follow-up questions. To start, here are some key highlights of the United MileagePlus Club Card:
  • As the card name suggests, a full United Club membership is included. If you already have a United Club membership, once approved for the card, you’ll be refunded for any unused portion of your membership as long as the refund is $15 or more (the refund is applicable to annual and three year memberships)

  • There are some key benefits, too. Just like our Presidential Plus Card, the new Club Card is designed to enhance your total travel experience. Here’s a list of the benefits (details for each can be found here):
  • Earn 50% more miles on ALL purchases. This is a new benefit. Cardmembers will earn at least 50% more miles on all purchases with the new Club Card. Specifically, for each $1 spent, Cardmembers will earn 1.5 miles, and when purchasing United tickets, the miles jump to 2 miles for every $1 spent on tickets
  • Free first and second standard checked bags for the Cardmember and one companion
  • Premier Access travel services, including priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling
  • Book award tickets close to the departure date without a fee. We’ll waive the fee for booking award tickets 21 days or less prior to departure. This benefit is reserved for certain Cardmembers and certain Premier levels
  • Get complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members). Cardmembers who are also Premier members will be eligible to receive their complimentary upgrade benefits (where available) even when traveling on an award ticket in economy class
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Cardmembers will have access to last-seat award availability (applicable to general members)
  • As a Cardmember, miles don’t expire
  • Invitation to special Avis benefits and Hyatt Platinum Elite status
  • Inside Access from Chase. As a Cardmember, you will be delighted with opportunities to attend private, curated, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Visit InsideAccess.com to learn about upcoming events
  • Access to the Chase’s Luxury Hotels and Resorts Collection special rates and benefits
  • Premier travel and purchase protection, including primary auto rental collision damage coverage
  • 24/7 Concierge Services

For those of you who already have a credit card with Chase, here’s some more information:

  • Already have a Mileage Plus Club Visa Card? You’ll find that the key differences are that the new Club Card has the added benefits of free checked bags, Premier Access, 50% mileage bonus on all purchases, award tickets close to departure date without a fee and complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members where available). The new Club Card does not award Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases. More specific information about your current card and the new Club Card will arrive in the mail in late April

  • Already have the Presidential Plus Card? The key difference is that the Presidential Plus Card awards Flexible Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases whereas the new Club Card awards a 50% mileage bonus on all purchases. Both cards earn 2 miles for every $1 spent on United tickets. If you’re interested in changing over to the new Club Card, simply call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options. While the Presidential Plus Card and its benefits will continue, we are not taking any additional applications for new Presidential Plus accounts

  • Already have another United card from Chase? If you currently have another United card from Chase and want to switch, call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options

For a full list of details, and to apply for the new Club Card, please visit MileagePlusClub.com.

As always, please let us know your questions.

How long after applying for the card before I have UC access?
Chase / UA states (Offer Details)
Please allow 2 weeks after account open date for the United Club membership to activate
but it usually is quicker. At UCs, much of the time they will see it in under a week. *A lounges may require the physical card which may take 4-6 weeks. Those accepting the virtual card should work about the same as UCs.

Got the $100 previously. Called again today (2 months later), and was immediately offered to switch to a no-fee card and a prorated annual fee refund. Wasn’t proactively offered another $100 but also didn’t ask for it.

Now that the grocery bonus has expired, have they any other incentives to retain customers?

Called today to cancel my UA Explorer Card - they immediately offered a $100 credit. I refused and closed it.
I also asked about any offer on my Club Card (1st anniversary upcoming) and was immediately offered the $100 statement credit which I accepted.

Called today. It took longer get thru the phone options messages and a slight (1-2 minute) hold, then it did to get the $100 statement credit. Does appears you need to explicitly request "offer" or "COVID credit" for Club card. Used the Chase phone number on the back of the card - just under the card magnetic strip.

Did ask if there was anything better -- "not at this time"
Said it would take 1-2 statements to showup

Disappointing the online customer service approach does not appear to be as responsive -- generally, they have been the better method for card issues.

Asked for statement credit this morning. Annual renewal is November 1. Rep said, "No such thing, I would have seen memo". Also said I might get an offer if I try to cancel at AF time. I'll be cancelling my card. I did use the chase.com/united 1-800-999 number on back of card. My UC use benefit was borderline pre-pandemic, and during pandemic (I still travel), I've found access to a lounge domestically is not all that. Internationally, I'm lifetime Gold and usually travel on P fares anyway, so I'll get lounge w/ those trips. $100 seems trivial relative to my spend. I'm moving away from United (and now) Chase, so I'll be looking into a card that fits my future travel and other spend habits.

Do you have to wait for renewal time (mine is next month) to ask for the retention offer? Also is good on the Business Version of the Club Card?

TIA

FWIW, very similar situation. LT Gold as well and will be cancelling. I have even tried to get the credit but per you comment the 100 bucks seems "trivial" and the benefits now minimal at best.

In my case, renewal is still 3+ months out and the word retention was not mentioned. I commented about loss benefit over the past 5 months.
Mine was a regular non-business Chase MP Club card (having had the card for 7-8 years)

I mentioned loss of main benefit also and was denied. Chase and United are good partners in that their agents are equally inconsistent.

Question: I purchased a United ticket with a travel voucher. United's website doesn't allow you to alter the amount of the voucher applied, and the voucher had more than enough money to cover the fare, taxes and fees. I'm thinking that means this trip won't be protected by my United Card's travel protections and I might need to consider a 3rd party plan?

This is the $100 a year Chase United Mileage Plus Card, not the Sapphire. I had to cancel that, $500 a year wasn't worth it as I don't really use Uber/Lyft or Meal Delivery services.

Correct
You might try purchase E+ access and that can trigger some coverage

You will need to read the Guide to Benefits for the specific card

$100?
Which card is this? Is it a "newer" card or one of the premerger legacy cards?

If I purchase a reserved seat, would that count?

If you paid a separate fee by the credit card, perhaps.
You need to read the term of the specific unidentified card to know for sure, as some items may be capped by purchased amount and others not. Terms vary based on specific card and present card benefits.

In my experience, card benefits are decent for trip delays / luggage delays but purchased insurance is much better for other events

My partner has the Chase UA (?explorer) card and was just given an offer to "upgrade" to the Club Card for first year free and 60K miles. Not sure what the charge will be after year one and I don't know all the details about how much of an initial charge is required on the card but he took the offer. I still hold the Club Card and when I called a couple of weeks back about the "credit back" of $100 I got the same reply as many here have complained about that the representative knew nothing about it. I will try again but I am thinking of dumping the card after many years of holding it.

I called, and agent kept asking me if I would like to close the card, sounded like that's all she needed to hear to apply the credit, as soon as I said "sure" the next time she asked if I wanted to close my card
She went ahead and issued the 100 credit.
