So, it seems that we don't have a definitive answer for what PSS stands for? Interesting.
Two replies so far, and both different.

Yes, an IT thing. I believe it stands for Page Speed Service. A way to accelerate loading of webpages. Their URL points to alternate servers that have optimized code.
Very considerate of UA to be so concerned about delays in delivery of their web content Now if only....

I was unable to get through to the website at all for a period of two hours, between 5am-7am EDT.
The site is back up now, loading a heck of a lot faster than it ever did before, and displaying everything at a larger size than previously. ^ ^
All cookies to the previous site no longer worked. <Understandable>
My upgrades still haven't cleared, however.

The size looks identical to me - are you sure you hadn't accidentally zoomed out the page in your browser before? Most browsers remember this whenever you visit a specific site, which would explain why it's different now

Yes, quite sure. I would have had to zoom quite a lot to get it how it is now. I was sort of enjoying the space all around the frame. Now it fills the whole screen and I have to keep scrolling to see info which previously was there on one screen. Of course this is fixable, but I was surprised to see the difference not only in display but in speed of loading, which is quite impressive now compared with before, when it was pathetic.

I'm not a tech guy but I've been unable to get on the site since yesterday. My MacAir Safari browser gives me an error message about the website redirecting to too many pages.
Oh well, LX just got $6K of my money for a business class trip to Europe next week.

It seems well known that Safari does not work well with united.com. Try a different browser.

Boy, I wish they would redirect http://united.com to http://www.united.com, or fix how they handle cookies. It looks like http://united.com works, but doesn't pick up on cookies and session state from http://www.united.com.

I've been using https://www.united.com/ (with the HTTPS Everywhere - Browser plug-in from the Electronic Frontier Foundation) and it actually seems to keep me logged in.
