This happened at least once. Last time it was due to a broken lavatory, IIRC.

I'd be willing to suffer to Shanghai with a broken lavatory, but in November, we were about an hour out from Newark on our way to Bonaire when the radar went out. I think the pilot chose wisely to turn back, and we ended up being only ~3 hours late into Bonaire with a new plane.

Looks like UA 86 (plane #3011) made it back to Newark and is now scheduled out at 1700 in plane #3002. Anyone know what happened?

So 840 SYD-LAX today (4/7) stops in HNL again, hours late into LAX. Anyone know why? No info online.

"Operations"? Seems like a catch-all for "we screwed up and don't want to admit it to customers".

Expertflyer cuts off after the first page of flight info, so any messages are not visible.

Thr flight was on the ground for 1:19, would appear to me that it was a stop for fuel, but then again, I could be totally wrong.

Slightly related question: If this was a medical diversion, how does customs work for the passenger/passengers family?

Hi, I was on April 7 SYD-LAX (via Honolulu :-( .

The Sydney-LAX on April 7th got diverted to Honolulu due to an unruly passenger. Basically somebody got drunk and misbehaved, needed to be contrained, and had to be taken off the plane by the police. I hope he is not allowed to fly and has to take a boat back to Australia!

I have to say the staff handled it really professional, and the unruly passenger drunk duty free alcohol, I just felt bad for the staff and passengers, not United's fault.

United offered 15K miles as appreciation, which I found every nice, not their fault that someone is an idiot on a flight, so I was impressed with that leg of the trip.

Don't get me started on the entire trip, since this was day 2, day 1 flight 870 got cancelled and I missed my daughter's birthday.... and spend hours trying to get me home 24 hours later, really interesting if your new booking gets you to within 700 miles of your end destination where live... On that one I will need to work with United to compensate me, and then offer my family peace so I can fly again,

Eduard

UA 839 Apr 20 Diversion to BNE

A friend is on UA839, LAX/SYD, currently on the ground in BNE supposedly due to fog.

While there looked to be a couple diversions earlier in the morning, had 839 continued on to SYD there look to be other planes who have landed at the appointed time.

Do these ghetto 747's not have a full complement of equipment allowing them to land in low vis conditions?

Plane gassing up now at BNE and will make the 1 hour hop to SYD just in time to bust everyone's connections.

I had noticed that they had a similar diversion with the same flight yesterday. Mods should bring the following thread forward to the consolidated forum:

Umm. I think it's your ghetto runways that don't have the Cat 2 ILS landing systems installed.

I just woke up here in Sydney by the Circular Quay ferries and the fog is intense... I can see maybe 300 yards away before visibility goes to zero.
