Help booking reward flight with stopover/transfer/notsurewhatitscalled
 
OK here's the goal. I will be flying from Houston (IAH) to Montreal (YUL) on award miles and if possible I would like to stay 2 nights in a popular connecting city, thinking NY, Philadelphia, or Toronto.

So..

IAH
->
NY?(not sure what airport),PHL,YYZ? - stay 2 nights here
->
YUL - stay 4 nights here
->
IAH

Need help figuring out availability (2 tickets, economy) and also figuring out the best way to book it. This needs to be with award miles. Also any special rules how many miles will it take? Can this be had with 50K (total) miles and 2 saver tickets?

The extra stop is called a stopover
A stopover is permitted on roundtrip award travel only. One stopover is permitted, unless otherwise noted. Additional mileage may be required for Saver Awards within the mainland U.S., Alaska and Canada.
The extra mileage required is 10K miles on top of either an economy or domestic F award.

This puts us at 70k for 2 Saver awards? Where are you quoting these rules from and how would I book it? Every link I tried seems to point to a page that no longer exists on UA. Assuming this can only be booked on the phone but any good way to look for availability online or will they be pretty patient with me on the phone?
