MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

DCA-EWR-ARN

Looking at flying DCA-EWR-ARN with last leg on SAS. According to the thread most UA express flights from DCA land in A. So you then have to take the shuttle from A to C and then C to B?

I guess taking a 2.5 hour vs. 1.5 hour connection would be prudent? Frequent delays on DCA-EWR?

A reason for not flying IAD-CPH-ARN is that SAS has a terrible schedule now due to cuts in flights. During the week when the time difference is 5 hours the first possible flight to CPH has a 4.5 hour layover!

You would be correct. DCA-EWR is operated by GoJet, which unless something has changed, will use Terminal A.

Joy today of having the flight change from an A25 arrival to a remote stand arrival. And then the ground staff acts like they had no idea, so we're still waiting on buses.

Annoyingly folks with A connections now get to take two buses. My connection luckily enough is in C, so I'm not worse off I suppose.

While not directly related as I have plenty of connection time, but this seems to be the best thread to ask the question.

Arriving from either IAD or DCA, so arrival into A or C; I suppose to be determined closer to the travel date. Last week, I arrived in C and took the bus to A. No problem except the boarding passes were being checked prior to getting in line downstairs, hence my concern.

I'll be taking a *A J fight from B later in the evening and I'll want to use the Polaris lounge in C (unless someone tells me that the LH SEN lounge in B is better). With my flight leaving from B, and assuming I arrive at A, will I be able to take the bus from A to C with a boarding pass indicating a B gate?

This is becoming more "random". Could be A or C, depending on operations.

This will be dependent somewhat on staff. If questioned, you should be able to tell them you need to get to C for lounge access, but you might get resistance. I don't think you will have any troubles as they typically don't stop at Terminal B on the trip from A to C. Just when you go from C will they stop at B if needed, before going to A.

Polaris is better than LH. LH is OK to drop by prior to boarding, as you will want to leave enough time to make the bus transfer.

I won't bother to ask the A-C bus driver this question because I will visit PL first. If you leave PL early enough, you will have time to visit LH lounge.

As usual only one security lane open - no pre-check - and the line went all the way back into the terminal.

Last few times I attempted entry at Terminal A, it went great. Pre-Check lane open, no line, less than 5 minutes and I was in the United Club.

When dropping off a rental car, going all the way to C, just to take the bus back to A, eats up a lot of time.

Agree with you. Can't wait til the new terminal is open.
I tried TSA at Terminal A again last week, and can confirm it has gone back to sucking bad. 2 lines open, but neither one was Pre-Check

It was probably still quicker than taking the AirTrain to C, then the bus back to A.

Any reason to be concerned about a 3 hour layover at EWR connecting from BA J to UA Y?

Trying to piece together award availability and the best option looks to be BCN - LHR - EWR on BA J and then just buying the EWR - RDU UA Y flight for the rest of the way home. Will be checking a bag but that should be irrelevant because EWR is our first entry point into the US and so will have to pick them up off the BA flight anyway and then re-check them with UA.

Putting aside misconnect issues, any concerns about a 3 hour layover with GE/PreCheck on doing this (looks like MCT is 1.5 hours so by the book it seems fine)? Looks like BA typically lands into B

I'd say 3 hours for an unprotected transit like this is prbably going to be fine. I'd book it. I wouldn't book anything shorter, though.

No big issues. The checked bag is relevant, as it will likely be the thing that you wait on the longest. And you will have to take it over to either C or A, depending on which terminal your United flight will leave from. (I assume C).

PreCheck entry into C terminal is very quick. The one part of Newark Airport that works well pretty consistently.

As you say, absent any significant irrops / misconnect risks, you should be fine with 3 hours.

Any chance of getting AA J LHR-RDU to simplify the trip? If not, Id think three hours would be plenty.

Unfortunately not.

Ill keep looking of course but right now its either:

BCN - ZRH - JFK // LGA - RDU (LX to JFK and DL to RDU with a 4.5 hour layover)

or this option

BCN - LHR - EWR - RDU (BA to EWR and UA to RDU as noted above with 3 hour layover)

Im inclined to think this one is better and at least its the same airport so a little less risky although LHR is probably more likely to have IRROPS than ZRH barring a major weather event in Switzerland

My wife and I made it in under 55 minutes from the door opening on our LX ZRH-JFK flight to the UA check-in counter at LGA. We had checked luggage, too (and GE). Its a doable option.

Booked a late November DD connection at 35 minutes last night. Will the system update with 40 min MCT on November 1st if I understand correctly? Terminal C to A likely, or remote stand.

The only 35 minute connections left in the GDS are these:

Code:
UA-UA DD .35 EQP 753 - ALL INF - 31OCT22
UA-UA DD .35 EQP W - ALL INF - 31OCT22
UA-UA DD .35 FLT 3400 - 6379 - FLT 3400 - 6379
UA-UA DD .35 INF - 31OCT22
Therefore, only if you're connecting from 3400-6379 to 3400-6379 (presumably A-A) should this be allowed.
