MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

Last few times I attempted entry at Terminal A, it went great. Pre-Check lane open, no line, less than 5 minutes and I was in the United Club.

When dropping off a rental car, going all the way to C, just to take the bus back to A, eats up a lot of time.

Agree with you. Can't wait til the new terminal is open.

I am confused about your car rental dropoff note. Car rental is by P3, closer to Terminal A. Why would you need to go to Terminal C? Or are you going to C and taking the airside bus back to A?

Yeah, that was my point. For a while, when Terminal A was consistently crap, I would take the time hit and go to C to clear security, then back to A on the bus.
It was probably quicker to wait thru the line at A, but seemed so much more stressful.

Hnl - ewr, ewr - lhr

Hi all,

Flying the above route on United with a 1h44 mins layover at EWR (landing at 6.45am). I've never flown through EWR. Assume my baggage will be checked through but is there sufficient time for the connection? Do I need to go through security again or to a different terminal?

Thanks.

Long travel day!

Baggage will be checked through. The morning LHR flight will depart from the same terminal the HNL flight arrives from, C. As HNL-EWR is domestic, you will be able to walk from one gate to another and will do the document check at the LHR gate. You will likely need to switch C concourses though, won't be longer than a 10-15 minute walk between gates max.

Not necessarily on the concourse switch. Inbound flights from HNL generally use C2 or C3, both concourses can handle widebodies, so both inbound and outbound can be in the same concourse. Regardless, all concourses at Terminal C are connected and behind security, unlike other terminals at EWR.

Also, I don't know what you mean by morning outbound LHR flights will depart from Terminal C. Redeyes use Terminal C as well. If you are thinking of Terminal B, that is for INTL arrival only for UA. UA does not use Terminal B for departures; all arrivals there would be towed away.

My comment about the morning LHR flight was just to differentiate between the flight makrxx is actually going to take vs the other evening flights, that's all.
Regarding the concourse switch - I see that yesterday's EWR-HNL arrived at C2 but today's EWR-LHR day flight departed from C1. I don't have historical data but a concourse change seems likely.

HNL- EWR-LHR is about yearly for me. Don’t about specific concourses - the gate situation for a HNL arrival can be very fluid. I’ve seen it it change 2-3 time in day(s) before arrival. The important thing is that HNL arrival and LHR departure will both be into and out of a C gate, and both post-security in same terminal. Anyone saying they know what gate/concourse a HNL flight will go into is just guessing.

So true -- I frequently have gates that change even AFTER we land at EWR (and of course many other airports) -- it all depends on what is going on that day / hour / minute...

If both flights are UA, your baggage will be checked through. There is sufficient time for the connection assuming that your HNL-EWR flight isn't held or slowed down due to congestion on the EWR end.

The important thing is that HNL arrival and LHR departure will both be into and out of a C gate, and both post-security in same terminal. Anyone saying they know what gate/concourse a HNL flight will go into is just guessing.

Thanks everyone, good to hear. Hopefully it'll be on time so I can pop into United Club for a quick shower and food.

Minimum Connection

What is the minimum connection on United domestic to domestic? Have a 31 minute connection booked DTW-EWR-HNL and wondering if United will change it due to minimum connection?

35 minutes until the end of October; 40 minutes starting November 1. I assume this was the result of a schedule change?

Yes, UA will change it; in fact, they'll insist on it.

No, not a schedule change. It was a Star Alliance award that Turkish Airlines booked.

Uh oh. You may have some pretty serious problems, then.

Turkish is responsible for rebooking you, not UA. But you won't be able to check in with that award, which never should have been ticketed.

Uh, why would UA change the connection if it was booked by TK? Either way, I think your challenge is going to be the separation distance between your incoming DTW flight gate and departing HNL flight gate. And getting checked in.
