United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Regardless of where your RDU flight arrives, this is insanely short for an international connection. Even if your flight lands on time, the FRA flight will have started boarding before you step off the plane. My view is that, if you make it, you'll be the last to board. I'm surprised UA sells this as a legal connection (can't get into my EF account at the moment.)

For flights within the U.S., all customers must be on board the aircraft 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. We recommend being at the boarding gate at least 15 minutes before departure to ensure that you’re on the aircraft before the doors are closed.For international flights, we encourage you to be at the gate no later than 30 minutes before your scheduled departure.

Thanks everyone... this is my first bit of travel since the Fun and Excitement began, and I never would have taken a 40 minute turnaround before the Late Unpleasantness on any connection, even domestically. I spoke with my corporate agent today and got them to rebook me, a third time, on the outbound flights that they should have put me on the first time I called...
So now I have a comfy 2 hours layover in IAD. 40 minutes was really suspicious to begin with, I appreciate the validation of my apprehension. Personally, I don't, at all, like to run through an airport, especially one that I very seldom travel through.

I think it's a bit vague because it "all depends". I've seen INTL flights held at the gate even past scheduled departure time when it's for a connecting passenger. They aren't going to do that for someone who checked in at that airport (in this case, EWR) but will often page him/her before they get ready to close the door. Casual observation tells me they might close the door as early as T-30 if all the expected passengers are on board.

I know print-at-home domestic BP have notes at the bottom, including the "must bet at the gate 15 minutes before departure" language. Curious if an International version has the same verbiage. I haven't paid that much attention to them.

Sure, always possible for United to choose to keep the door open. I just find it a bit strange they don't have a firm cutoff published on the website to cover themselves like they do with Domestic.
I know print-at-home domestic BP have notes at the bottom, including the "must bet at the gate 15 minutes before departure" language. Curious if an International version has the same verbiage. I haven't paid that much attention to them.

Trying to figure out the minimum connecting time at Newark from an international flight to a domestic flight....
We would be arriving into EWR on La Compagnie from Milan and then connecting to either American, Delta or United for our flight home.
Any info & advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Different airlines on different tickets? Don't forget that if you are checking bags, you will need to meet a baggage cutoff deadline at EWR. For domestic flights at EWR the UA cutoff is 45 minutes. I'd allow an absolute minimum of 2hrs. With bags I'd allow an absolute minimum f 2.5hrs.
I do not believe that La Compagnie interlines with either AA, DL or UA so we shall prepare for the worst....and may have to spend the night at a hotel near EWR.

Is just over an hour time enough to make a stop in the Polaris Lounge? Will be arriving from houston on UA 2494 connecting to UA 64. Fortunately have 3 hours in Houston, but an hour and a quarter in Newark. Upon our return we have nearly 3.5 hours, will we get through with customs to enjoy a Polaris visit? Thanks!
