United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

That's a little tight, especially as sometimes UAL arrivals into EWR end up at Terminal B and you have to change terminals. And yes, you will have to reclear security.

How bad has all the TSA drama affected EWR? I'm flying TXL-EWR-SFO in J next week with a tightish connection in EWR, no checked bags, and do have GE...

There's an entire discussion about the security wait times at EWR in this thread and it's a total YMMV situation as some have reported miminal to no wait times and others have reported horrendous wait times

1 hr domestic-international united connection at EWR?

Hi,

I have a LAX-EWR on UA 510 arriving at 8:47 pm with a 1:03 hr connection at EWR to UA 82 EWR to DEL leaving at 9:50 pm. I know there is a united shuttle but am wondering how comfortably doable this is, since the international flight probably starts boarding 45 min earlier? I have premier gold and like to get at the gate early to possibly ask if upgrade seat is possible and am one of those annoying people that likes to board early.

Return is MAA to FRA on UA 9131 with a 1 hr 45 min connection in FRA to UA 8845 FRA-LAX. This one scares me a bit, i once had a 2 hr 40 min layover for the same route and barely made it in time after passport control and security.

If your flight from LAX is on time there's no problem — you arrive and depart from Terminal C and there's no need to go through security or take the shuttle or anything. And forget about getting an upgrade at the gate lol.

Both flights are actually operated by LH so you might want to check this very useful thread in the LH forum. 105 min is just over the MCT and if you misconnect LH will have to rebook you anyway so I wouldn't worry that much. Also you're flying non-Schengen to non-Schengen so there's no need to go through passport control, just security.

It does at some times during the day--afternoon I think--and only to one of the three "pods". I don't know the details of the service to the B Terminal, however.

I took it over to B last week. Landed C1 concourse. Connecting flight out of B62 on LH. There have been a couple of posts about being turned away if you don't have a BP for Terminal B. When I took it at around 2:30pm on Thursday, there was a fair amount of people heading down to the bus. It was no questions asked. Also, it's a lot of stairs down and back up over at B, so be prepared to lug your stuff.

EWR Connection on Aeroplan Award (I)

Hello Team UA,

The family and I are looking at an aeroplan reward that involves AC and UA travel. We are looking at a 74 minute connection in EWR from domestic (YYZ - EWR on AC) to international (EWR to VCE on UA) in business. It will be July, 2016.

I presume that if there is a misconnect we are at the bottom of the list for getting put on another flight?

Is this workable? Our other option is a 7 hour layover at EWR.

To the moderators: I put this in the UA thread because I thought there would be more information there. It is technically an aeroplan question so may be more appropriate in the Air Canada forum.

Your issue is the timing of the shuttle between Terminal A (Air Canada) and Terminal C (UA mainline). No issues with customs of course, since you clear in Canada.

Having said that - I'd take the risk of the 74 minute connection - it's well above the MCT, and those quick transborder hops either come in super early or are super-delayed - and if super delayed, you can reroute while still in Canada.

Just keep on hand any other possible routings EWR-VCE or even JFK-VCE - and perhaps keep looking for other flights YYZ-EWR - I'm sure they go out on the hour - so maybe other award space will open between now and the flight.

I thought that AC flies out of a different "finger" of Terminal A than the shuttle bus (for United) leaves from. I could be mistaken though - perhaps there is another shuttle bus for the AC gates. Can anyone confirm either way if the OP will have to reclear security to go from the AC gates of A to terminal C?

It does and this is a problem as OP will have to take the train and reclear security in Terminal C - and in July 74 minutes mid-afternoon to connect is really pushing it IMO. OP - keep looking for an earlier flight option into EWR - I can't recommend taking that chance with no status and connecting between terminals at EWR.

I'd chance the 74 minute cnnection if arriving from YYZ on AC. It doesn't leave a lot of time but there should be enough.

Ah, I forgot that the Shuttle only goes to the UX side of Terminal A.

That will not be a fun connection, especially if non-status pax at Terminal C, with what TSA's woes.

Remarkably, no. For whatever reason AC has dumped their mid afternoon flight (on Saturdays) and the only other option is a 3pm United Express with no J . . . and nobody wants that. It's not an award space problem. It's a no airplane problem.

How often do these shuttles between the terminals run?
