MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

To answer your question: Yes, MCT for D-I at EWR, on UA-UA flights, is 0:40. However, there are a number of exceptions: if you're arriving on a widebody or a 753, it's :45. If you're arriving by bus (from Allentown), it's :50. If you're going to TLV, it's 1:00 (extra security checks for Israel-bound flights). etc.

But also, add ten minutes if you have to transfer from A-C. The problem with this one is, if you're coming in on United Express, you won't know for sure if you'll be landing at A until the day of the flight. So you can book something that's valid all the way up until the day of travel... and then suddenly becomes invalid. (AFAIK, UA doesn't run any mainline service to terminal A).
Thanks for this detail! I've done D-I connections at EWR coming in on a widebody from IAH which may explain why I have not seen connections like this before. In this case, it's a mainline (738) arrival and a 763 departure to Europe so I guess that fits within the 'legal' parameters you laid out. If I have to go with this itinerary I'll be watching for the first sign of a delay to hopefully be re-routed at origin. My thinking is even a fairly normal ~20 minute delay for wind or something will put me into red territory and assuming I get a good agent I should be able to get re-routed before boarding. Doesn't prevent any in-air delays, etc but have to make do with what I can.

Just realized that I need to attend two online meetings before my flight tomorrow out of A. Of course, the A UC never reopened. So am I still able to use the C1 club and then take the bus over to A for my flight?

Thanks!

Yes, you can still use the C terminal club, then take the bus over to A.
Be advised the C club is chronically over-crowded, so not sure how conducive it will be for online meetings.

Just a data point. Returning from Iceland last Monday (9/13/21). It took over an hour to get our bags in B (from deplaning). I talked to the UA agent about why our bags took so long. She said that they had 10 flights landing within 10 minutes. Our flight was really light.

I don't understand the green/blue color coding for baggage recheck. Our flight never showed up on the board and I was worried about where we should recheck, assuming our bags every arrived. There was only one recheck station and the employees were frantic.

I hate arriving at B.

I never noticed the green/blue color coding for baggage recheck. Where did you see it? I normally put gave my bags to a bag scanner and left.
I have no preference on the arrival concourse at EWR, Concourse C will certainly help shortening my connection time.

Hi. I think this is the place for the question.

Flying into terminal A, but want to meet a friend behind security in terminal C. I’m not flying into ewr on United.

Can I take the United terminal bus from A to C without clearing security, as I’m already inside the terminal? Do they ask for a ticket or anything?

Hope that question makes sense. Thank you!

The three piers of terminal A all have their own security checkpoint, so if you arrive in a pier that is not used by United, you can't access the A-to-C shuttle without going through security.

Only if you arrive into a gate numbered in the A20s. Terminal A has 3 concourse (A10s, A20s, A30s) that are not connected behind security. I don't recall them checking boarding passes for the bus.

Does anyone know if the airside shuttle from Terminal C to Terminal B is currently running? I will be arriving on UA mainline domestic and connecting to LH.

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-air...ecting-flights and https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly.../maps/ewr.html both indicate a C --> B shuttle bus is available. But I'd appreciate some ground truth if someone has recent experience.

If no one has a definitive answer soon, I am flying out of EWR C tonight and will check.
I seem to recall from a recent visit that it was only between A and C, but can't swear to it.

I haven't needed to do C to B recently, but my memory is that it's all one bus, and you just need to be sure you tell the driver to drop you off at B (default is to skip it).

That is how it worked in the past. I kind of recall seeing a sign that had the "B" marked out, indicating it was just A<->C now.
When it stops at B, there needs to be staff/security to ensure anyone getting off the bus goes into the terminal, so maybe they eliminated that position since COVID??

I will try to remember to confirm tonight.

I think I recall at one point they would have a C/A bus and a separate C/B bus, probably with signs, but I am pretty sure that even before COVID the busses had already been merged for a little while.

Anyway, yes, I'm not sure if the staffer shepherding pax into B is still posted, so that might be the determinative factor.
