United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). About two months from now, my wife might fly SFO-EWR-YHZ in economy, with just a carry-on. She'd depart SFO at 11:30 pm, arrive EWR at 7:40 am and then depart EWR at 9 am. Both flights would be UA (well, EWR-YHZ would be United Express). A couple of questions:
1. Is the 1.20 sufficient connection time?
2. I get a bit confused about the immigration pre-clearances between the USA and Canada. She has Global Entry but not Nexus. Am I correct in assuming that, aside from UA checking her passport, she wouldn't deal with immigration until arriving in YHZ?

In the circular area (Terminal A) where the shops are etc., there should be a path for "Transfer to C" ... I think you walk down the stairs, look for that.

Usually if you arrive on United or Air Canada into Terminal A (A2), there's a bus that gets you to Terminal C. But if you are arriving with another airline, there's a another section of Terminal A that does not have that bus connection.

Much thanks to the 3 replies above. UA put us on Alaska Aiar 790 because of the 3+ hr delay in SEA. Folks there didn't know avout the UA transfer sitr in the UA area, I guess.

I have a booking coming up for SJU-(UA)-EWR-(LH)-FRA with a 40 minute window to connect at EWR. I rarely fly through EWR and can't recall having ever transfered from UA to LH there. I understand that my UA flight arrives at Terminal C and my LH flight departs from B, how easy is the transfer given the limited time I have? I have TSA Pre if that is of any significance in this instance.

Is that right? My experience was the shuttle only ran one satellite, specifically not the Air Canada one.

That being said: 40 minutes is shorter than what I would be comfortable with. When is your flight? If between now and your flight, there's a schedule change that shortens the time, if I were you I would use that to ask to be switched to an earlier flight in SJU. Or if you can, try to do a Same Day Change on the day of the flight to an earlier departing flight from SJU.

You are right, the passengers arriving on Air Canada do not arrive at the satellite with the connecting bus and would have to clear security again.

You can take the connecting bus between Terminal C and Terminal B without having to get out of the secure area so no need to go through security again..
That being said: 40 minutes is shorter than what I would be comfortable with. When is your flight? If between now and your flight, there's a schedule change that shortens the time, if I were you I would use that to ask to be switched to an earlier flight in SJU. Or if you can, try to do a Same Day Change on the day of the flight to an earlier departing flight from SJU.

As nearly as I can tell, the Minimum Connection Time for UA to LH at EWR is an hour and a half:
UA-UA DI 1.30 ALL - FLT 8715 - 9614
UA-LH DI 1.30
UA-LH DI 1.30
You should call UA and get them to change your flights.
would much rather take a later flight to FRA on UA metal (no saver availability at this time) that leaves about 2h after the LH flight if that was an option. In case my SJU-EWR flight is rescheduled to depart later and therefore violating the MCT at EWR, would UA open up (saver) award space on the UA flight EWR-FRA for me?
40 minutes is the MCT for Domestic to International for UA-UA flights not called out with an exception (A->C transfer, widebody or 753 inbound, etc.). However, it's well below the Sensible Connection Time at EWR.
