United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

After immigration you get your luggage, you get out and immediately give your luggage (that is already tagged to your final destination) back to the UA employees who are waiting for the luggage. There's no way you can miss them.

In case you were wondering why you have to go through security again, it's because you've had access to your checked bags. They might have sharp objects, etc., so once you've had access to them you need to be screened again.

The way U.S. airports are set up, with very few exceptions even those who don't have luggage pass through the luggage hall.

For some origin countries there may be a concern about their security not being up to TSA standards, too. But I think the primary concern is that the flow exposes you to checked luggage, it's been that way since long before the TSA.

You had access to checked luggage even if not yours plus US law requires you to clear immgration and customs upon entry into the USA.

You had to pick up your checked bag, walk it through customs, recheck the bag, reclear Security (dumping you into the Terminal airside), then head to baggage claim to pick up your bag again. I don't think that's the case there now, but it was strange the first time I went through there.

Terminal B APC?

I have read that Terminal C has the APC (Automatic Passport Control) kiosks, but does Terminal B now have them as well?

Keen to avoid the long immigration queues on a Friday afternoon for an ESTA user and I have see than UA18 from MXP often arrives at Terminal B (13:40 arrival time).

Winter weather

This is cruise related. I'm considering RDU-EWR-SJU or RDU-IAH-SJU but neither are good options. Goal is to pick up a cruise departing SJU. Dates are Dec 13, 2019 to Dec 21. Am I crazy for thinking about going through EWR in winter? I plan to go a day early. I have checked Delta and their prices are ridiculous. I'll check Orbitz next.

I would fly on a LOT flight to Warsaw soon on Business Class which would depart at Terminal B. However, I want to use the Polaris Lounge so I would clear security at Terminal C and then take the intra-terminal shuttle bus.

My question would be, does the priority security lanes at Terminal C recognize partner boarding passes ( *G or J class ). As I would stop by the check-in desks, the boarding pass would be on LOT stock. Or, as my flight isn't on United, I would be sent back to the regular lane?

The new RDU T2 terminal changed that. You go through the same international arrival flow as at other US airports: immigration - luggage pickup - customs - bag drop (if connecting) - exit to public area - security (if connecting).

Before the ATL Int’l. Terminal was rebuilt to include checkin areas and a way to exit the terminal from there, arriving international passengers had to go through immigration - luggage pickup - customs - bag drop - security - train to main terminal - exit secure area - luggage pickup.
