MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

Connecting from UA233 to UA57.

Checking on lounge choices. United Clubs in Terminals A and C. There is a Priority Pass lounge, Art & Lounge, in Terminal B.

Seems like the latter won't be an option.
Most UA flights use Terminal C, but UA flights now arrive and depart at every EWR terminal. and there are lounges you can access in every terminal, too. Although accessing the LH or Priority Pass lounges in B isn't straightforward.

Ah if Terminal C, LoungeBuddy only shows United Clubs (two of them).

Oh well, I've been to one of the UC at EWR, not very impressive. Could use the Wifi from the food court below.

It's not a long layover anyways.

Yes, C is EWR's monopoly terminal. UA has all the gates. UCs have the lounge monopoly. OTG has the food service monopoly in the terminal. The results are pretty much textbook monopoly capitalism, with a bit of Sopranos plot twists for dramatic effect

But they're going to do something with Polaris eventually right?

I have an upcoming UAX flight to EWR connecting to a UA international flight. I'm guessing I'll be arriving in terminal A since it's a UAX flight and will then have to go to terminal C (do any UA INTL flights leave from B?).

From the information I can find, the shuttle bus between A & C only stops at one of the gate 28 in terminal A, which is in concourse A2. So if my UAX flight's gate is not in A2, then I have to leave security and take the train that runs between the terminals. Is that right or am I missing something? It looks like all the concourses in A have security outside them, and there doesn't seem to be a way to go between them without leaving the secured area.

Also, any recommendations on which UC to use in C?

UAX is only at A2 in Terminal A - so would not be concerned about that.

As for UC - neither is much better than the other. C3 is a bit more convenient because you don't have to haul your stuff up the elevator, but would just go to the one that is closer to your gate. You actually might want to go to the one in A2 (which will be much more peaceful) and hop the bus when it is time to board in C.

40 min connection time in EWR (domestic)

Looking at an award ticket BOS-EWR-HNL. United gave me a 40 minute connection time in EWR - is that going to be enough?

The BOS-EWR flight is at 6AM and the EWR-HNL flight departs at 8AM. I don't mind running around that early but any thoughts on whether this is doable or not worth the risk?

It's tight, but you should be fine since (I believe) all BOS-EWR flights are mainline. You'll arrive in Term C, and may have to change piers, but as long as you're not delayed, you should make it.

That's about the bare minimum I'd ever go in EWR... and I wouldn't book that mid-winter, since it's a pretty safe assumption there WILL be a delay! But if it's the only alternative, at a time when the weather is statistically ok, it's do-able.

My last 777-300ER flight was a half hour late, and this felt routine, for too many reasons to enumerate (wind, ATC, ...). There was an announcement asking us to let passengers with tight connections deplane first. While I usually marvel over the ineffectiveness of such announcements (merely planting the suggestion for a passenger willing to be very assertive), this time my reaction was "Who in their right mind plans travel that can be upset by a half hour delay?"

Not a reaction to your question, just a recalled recent private thought. I go years between missing connections; what's your tolerance for failure?

United is currently selling a BWI-EWR-BOM fare with a 50m connection. I sure hope no one is buying it. The combination of the extremely delay-prone mid-Atlantic short hops plus a 1/day INTL longhaul (to a country where a visa is required/checked for US citizens, no less!) is a recipe for disaster.

At least on EWR-HNL (or even BOS-XXX-HNL if it's that bad), you have other options, and it's D-D, so I'd probably book if if I like the price and schedule otherwise.

Since BOS-EWR departs at 6am, it is more likely to be on time than later in the day. Delays stack up as the day progresses. But research other BOS-<hub>-HNL options just in case.

OK if the flight gets in on time or nearly so....obviously best to sit near front to de-board as quickly as possible....and check your app in advance to see what gate the EWR-HNL flight departs from, and your route to there, so you don't need to waste time looking around at departure boards.

Can anyone give me insight into how difficult it would be to grab a shower at 0630 at the United Club? Is this a high-usage time?

Many thanks in advance!

It has been awhile, but last time I arrived EWR early AM and wanted a shower, it was pretty busy. 6 or so people ahead of me in line. Don't know if day of the week makes any difference, but I would assume so.

I took the easy way out and used the shower in the A concourse United Club. Unfortunately, with the recent remodel, they removed the shower. So only option now is to wait it out in C.
