Advice: 1 hr maintenance delay posted 10 hrs before flight - should I SDC?

United Flight 41
Operated by United Airlines
Status: Estimated Departure 1 Hour Late (Delayed - Maintenance)
DEPARTS
ARRIVES
City: New York/Newark, NJ (EWR - Liberty)
Gate: C137
Check-in Terminal:
Scheduled Time: 3:15 p.m.
Scheduled Date: Wed., Mar. 14, 2012
Estimated Time: 4:15 p.m.
Estimated Date: Wed., Mar. 14, 2012
Is it odd that a 1 hour maintenance delay would be posted at 5a for a flight departing 10 hours later? When I clicked on "Where is this aircraft coming from" it shows it arrived from LHR yesterday at 3p.

Any idea what this could be about? Am I safer doing SDC to flight departing 4:56p? Would really prefer to keep the prime seat I have on the current flight, but concerned that this could be a bigger issue that ultimately results in a cancellation with a middle seat on an undetermined later flight.

Or you are on the later flight and that is cancelled/delayed for some other reason. Without a crystal ball, predicting these things is impossible and not worth torturing yourself over.

I'm confirmed on the delayed 3:15p flight (currently estimated departure 4:15p), contemplating SDC to 4:56p. And yes I realize much of it is reading tea leaves, I just haven't had the experience of a maintenance delay called so far in advance estimating a 1 hour delay, just struck me as odd.
