Domestic US upgrades with miles & copay: website confusion
 

I'm trying to determine if there is a copay required for a domestic US (non-PS) flight where the passenger has no status but the upgrade is being paid for with miles from a Premier's account. Apologies in advance if this has already been covered, but I could not find this specific question being addressed via a search.

There is language on the United website that covers this, but as far as I can tell, there are two clauses which directly contradict each other:

My reading of the above two bullet points is that they both address my situation specifically, but directly contradict each other.

So, a) does anyone know the actual rule, and b) can the website be corrected? [or c) am I mis-reading the website?]

The actual rule, as I understand it, is that EVERYTHING is based on the account from which the miles are drawn. They may have changed that policy, but it is definitely what the rule used to be.

If they did change it then the "or" should be an "and" in the first line you quoted there. If they didn't then the second line is wholly erroneous.
