Waitlisted before Check-in, Not after check-in
I did online check-in, currently in Y and trying to upgrade to Business with a SWU.
Going through the on-line check in process there was no mention of my waitlisted SWU and I printed boarding passes that had no mention of my waitlisted upgrade and was not listed on the upgrade waitlist on the mobile site. Does online check-in wipe out your upgrade requests? |
i would call....

It is not asking me to scan my passport, just completely wiped out my upgrade request. I need to block off an hour to call united

Hi J.Edward, your summary of both of these situations is correct. When it comes to redeeming an upgrade, when the upgrade class of service is not available, mileage upgrade awards, Global Premier Upgrades (GPU) and Regional Premier Upgrades (RPU), will need to be requested 24 hours in advance. One main reason for this is because the system does not currently process waitlists within 24 hours of a flight. So, getting on the waitlist earlier than 24 hours out is key. Once you’re on the waitlist, you’ll automatically be transitioned to the airport upgrade standby list when you check-in.
If the correct class of service is available within 24 hours, these upgrades can indeed be confirmed within the 24-hour window either online or over the phone (the key here is the space must be available – which it usually is not). We’re working on a process that will allow the 24 hour timeframe to be removed, but, in full disclosure, I don’t have a timeframe for when this may change. Shannon |
