Award availability/cost difference between United.com and Continental.com

Two interesting phenomenon of differences in award bookings between CO and UA websites:

1) Award Availability... I'm 1K/Platinum, so I find NY availability on United.com for a US-Canada award on United on a certain popular spring break day, but I cannot find the same availability on CO website (even though I'm logged in). Why not? Does CO have any special 'NY' award bucket equivalent for Platinums? I thought Platinums do.

2) Taxes... booking on another day, with matching flights on the two website, its 104 for taxes for 2 people via United, and 99 for taxes for 2 via CO.

WHY WHY WHY? thanks for any clarifications.

while many alignments have occurred these are still two separate programs

NY is awards for 1Ks and not available to partners including CO. Yes Plat have better award opportunities but only on CO metal.
