Hi folks - Just wondering based on other people's experience, is $1,450 (including taxes/fees) for a W fare from NYC to HKG expensive or about the right price? Expensive is a relative term, but I just want to know if that's what a W fare commands for that particular route.

To fly IAD-BOM, it usually is around $1600 roundtrip in W...

HKG should be a bit more expensive than BOM..

Yes sounds reasonable. I have a $1500 W fare LAX-HKG in Nov. and just did a W LAX-BKK at $1800 so your on the lower range of what I have seen recently, and coming from NYC as well.

Yes, it's reasonable. Even from SFO, I pay similar amount for flying to HKG/PVG/PEK if I want to request upgrade.

The reasonableness of a W fare, to me, is 1) its price over the cheapest available fare and 2) the likelihood that I'll secure upgrades. Very few W fares to Hong Kong are reasonable to me, these days, unless there is confirmable NC availability at booking or no cheaper fare available for my dates of travel.

for comparison

I just paid $911 (including all taxes/fees) for a EWR-HKG RT in November. But it is a (K) fare class.

Great price. I always find that the added cost to book a W-class fare over a regular 'Kayak' search fair to Hong Kong is $300 ($150 each way). So for $1,150 that is a good fare, definitely on the lower end of the spectrum. Maybe not the cheapest, but only about $150 away from the lowest fare you might find during the year if you're lucky and travel dates are open. Go for it.

VERY good fare for W, but no where near as low as it gets...
