Business Class Width Difference by Fleet

What are the true seat widths for UA's and CO's business class products? According to Seat Guru, the UA 777 has a width of 20.5; CO 777, 22; UA 747, 23.5; and UA 763, 23.5. Could the difference in width be that much between the UA 777 and the rest of the international fleet? Or is that a typo?

I can't believe though that someone decided to go with a 2-4-2 layout in J.

Unfortunately, it's true.

I believe that half the United 777s are still using the old business class seats, which are recliner type and narrower. Those are the 20.5 width. They are being converted though and the new seats will be the same as those on UA 763 and 747. Your best bet is to stay away from UA 777s if possible until they are all converted.

Actually, it's the other way around. Business in the old 777 config is 7 across. In the new config it's 8 acrosss > the 20.5 width. Bad decision by UA.

Is the seat on the 777 truly different from that of the 747/767?

Has to be. It's 8 across on the both the 777 and 747 and the 777 is a narrower aircraft (19.3 feet vs. 20 feet).

Could be a narrower aisle too. 3" difference x 8 seats = 2 full feet. Cross-section is only .7' narrower though. So you wonder, would 1" skinnier on the seat have done it?

Who knows with Seatguru though...

Seats definitely feel narrower on the 777. Also on the 747 there are big differences depending on which seat you are in.

How much of that extra width went to butt space? The new ones seem a little narrower but the older ones had wider arm rest iirc.

The 4 across in the middle is a little disconcerting but it is no worse really then being in a window seat for me.

Yep, the new UA 777 business class seats are narrow. Dimensions available direct from United at http://www.united.com/page/article/0...ink=%2Flieflat

(click on the seat map configuration links for old and new layouts and seat dimensions)
