Benefits unique to the Chase MP Presidential Plus card (closed and not available for new cardholders)
- 1000 FPQM per $5,000 spend (or 0.2 / $1)
- FPQMs are only valid for Premier Silver / Gold / Platinum status, expire 3 years after earning
- FPQMs can only be used to increase PQMs to a max of 75,000. They are not counted once 75K is reached. (example 80K PQMs +10 FPQMs is still 80K total)
- FPQMs cannot be used to earn GPUs or RPUs past 75K PQMs
- FPQMs are held separately and are only used when the owner requests them to be applied to their MP account
FPQMs can be applied for a given year as late as March 31 of the next year

I thought I read on united.com they were good up until Platinum but not for 1K. Maybe I'm wrong.

No they will not. Don't use them unless you know you'll need them. In essence, FEQM's are worthless if 1K is your goal. The only value could possibly be to get you to Plat status sooner during the year which would get you a few more bennies on your journey to 1K.

Four to Six weeks from cycle closing

I just got off the phone with Chase, and they are quoting 4-6 weeks from cycle closing for the Flexible Premier Miles to post from the Chase Presidential Plus card.

This is longer than the ten day lag I have noticed in the past.

The one thing she did say is that the miles have been "earned" as soon as the cycle closed, but the posting takes longer.

I hope this is the case, as I am seriously considering closing my Presidential Plus account next time the renewal comes up as its benefits have been reduced, but in the meantime, I have been giving it extra spend to try to stock up on the FPM prior to me needing to pay the renewal fee. That said, I am still assuming that any miles not posted prior to me canceling the card will never post once I close the Chase account.

I still haven't gotten Select Card EQMs for March or April despite repeated call to Chase. However after PMing UA Insider yesterday they responded today that they would look into it for me.
Hard to believe this. I've had three United Chase Visas for donkeys years. I get RDMs from all, and PQMs from two (though one is about to lose the PQMs). Additionally, Chase/United keeps offering me more cards.

Flex PQMs/Presidential Plus

I know we had the hypothetical "what if" discussion a while back, but I'm wondering if anyone has any real world experience with what happens if you use Flex PQMs before you hit 75K, and then go over that threshold with actual BIS miles.

I'm less than 2K away from Gold, and have 4K flex PQMs sitting there. I'm thinking about using the flex miles to get me above 50K so I can be Gold for my upcoming flight (in order to bump me up a rung on the CPU list). Given my current travel plans, I'll "naturally" hit Platinum in the fall, and 1K some time in December.

I'm wondering, now that we're a few months into the changes, if anyone knows for sure whether UA will force me to "repeat" those 2K miles once I hit Platinum on my way to 1K, or if those 2K miles will remain credited even after I hit that threshold.

Uncertainty is still uncertain

To my knowledge no one yet has definitive knowledge of how this will in fact be handled. Lots of references to what should happen (flex don't count toward 1k no matter when redeemed) and at least one anecdote where full credit was given toward 1k status as "an exception".

I'm somewhat in your situation - likely to reach 1k later this year if flex miles are included.

I advise you to use the flex to get to gold now and then see what happens when you go over 100,000 counting the flex. Wouldn't wait until Dec 31 to go over 100,000, however as if the flex miles don't count you might want to make a 2k MR.

And by all means let us know what happens:

1) flex miles used befor 75k counted
2) flex miles not counted but added back to flex total
3) flex miles not counted, not added back to flex total

Not to be careless with your Flex miles, but 2K does not seem like a lot to potentially "waste" and have to repeat.

Hitting gold early, even if you have to repeat it get your 1K the "natural way", will still reap some benefits for RDM.

I'd have to agree, that unless you foresee the golden goose that gives you your Flex Miles is going away (non-renewning the Chase card that's granting them to you) go for it now, but assume you will be sorta wasting them when you naturally hit 1K in December. Alternatively, if you see yourself scrimping by to hit Platinum (not 1K status) in next three qualifying years, spend the 2K in Flex Miles now. The only other factor would be if somehow all your Flex Elite miles in your account are pre-2012, as those never expiry. From how I understand things, the pre-2012 Flex Elite miles can all never expire, while the post 2011 Flex Elite miles have to be used within 39 months of when they are earned. I also understand that the will be LIFO (Last in, First out) to help preserve your non-expirying pre-2012 Flex Elite miles.

Most reports on FT are that you have to hit 1K 100% naturally, so the presumptive view is that it will be a waste.

In my case, I am 1000 miles short of silver for 2013, but will easily naturally hit in December or need to use 1000 Flex Elite miles in December. I see myself as scrimping by to hitting Gold or even Plat in the next three years, so I won't be using my Flex Elite miles to get it quicker within a qualifying year unless I have to. Also, I do intend to non-renew my Chase Presidential Plus card, so I am trying to save up as much Flex Elite miles as I can before I give up that card. I do have a small amount of non-expiring pre 2012 Flex Elite miles too.

My biggest concern is that I'll lose my Flexmiles for this year! I can't deposit them because I'm at 85,000 EQMs already and hey can't be used for 1K status. I have15,000 Flexmiles in my account. What will happen to them? Is it a use them or lose them scenario?

You won't lose them this year. Those earned in 2011 or earlier don't expire. Those earned in 2012 last for 39 months so you'll be able to use them at least through 2014 and partly into 2015.

Flexible PQM's on United...

Hi FT Gurus...

First time poster, long time reader.

I had a quick question regarding Flex PQMs and the restrictions around them. Currently, I have about 60k PQMs, and am on track for about 90k. I have about 18k Flex-PQMs in the bank right now.

If I were to transfer 10k Flex PQMs to my current balance - bring it up to 70k total, and then fly my last 30k miles, would I still be eligible for 1K? The rule is that you can't use Flex PQMs to hit 1K, but in this case, I'd just be adding it to get close to Platinum.

Thoughts? Or should I just suck it up and fly 10k more miles?

Thanks!!

I believe the answer is "no". PQMs are only good for qualifying up to Plat, after that you have to do it the old fashioned way (and "after" means that the 100K total required cannot include the flex PQMs).

Flex PQM cannot be used to make 1K. Even if they were used to make Plat first, they just don't count toward 1K--so a 70k PQM balance which includes 10k Flex PQM would need 40k more PQM in the air (or via Premier Accelerator) to make 1K status.

Welcome to FT!, kms883
Answer is no. This is covered in a couple of threads. Such as
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...d-changes.html

Numerous schemes have been asked about and the answer from UA is always -- 1K qualification will not count any FEQMs.
