There has been CO connection flights to Havana for years. Also Copa has ground staff there so they'll have the appropriate facilities.

United does not typically fly to Cuba, according to its website.

Now, really.

Did they sell any seats?

If that plane went out empty they should have illustrated to the Cuban people the strength of our economy, our capitalist system and our generous nature, and offered seats out of Havana for anyone who would care to show up at the airport - cash on the nail for tickets of course. Would have helped UAL's revenue, the debt ceiling and the US Treasury balance of payments deficit, and shown us in such a good light. Cigar light that is. And the cargo hold should have been jamned full of cigars too.

I assume this was a practice run for the opening up of Cuba's beaches after we do a Nixon-Vietnam style declaration of winning this 50 year old debacle.

Just a few questions, which I'm sure that someone here will know the answer to.

1) Can EYW handle an A320? I know they can handle FL's 717s, but what about an A320? -- Looking at the route this flight took, EYW doesn't look too far off.

2) Could NAS Guantanamo Bay have been an option, at least we would have been on "American" soil.

AC flies 320s and 319s to Havana almost every day in the winter, several times a week during the rest of the year.
