Waitlisted using a SWU
Can anyone answer me why I am waitlisted for F while I am using a SWU (ANC to SEA #1050 16 July) when one can buy an upgrade for 50K and there are 11/20 seats available?
I thought SWu's were the same as using miles for a reward seat. |
That's frustrating. I've become increasingly annoyed with SWU/CR-1s these past few years.

Look at your itinerary again. The reason the SWU is not being applied is that United Flights on 16th July 2011 are operated by Continental Airlines. Currently as per Mileage Plus rules, SWU are not vaild for Continental Airlines since United does not operate that flight. You may want to call the Reservations, and try to have them honor the upgrade. Most likely, they'll say the same thing, but good luck and safe travels!
FROM UNITED'S WEBSITE: Anchorage, AK (ANC) to Seattle/Tacoma, WA (SEA) - July 16, 2011 Depart Arrive Via Duration Flight numbers Aircraft Info 0:40am 5:00am 3h20m UA1226 739 Info UA1226 Operated By:Continental Airlines 5:05pm 9:24pm 3h19m UA1253 738 Info UA1253 Operated By:Continental Airlines The following was on the following link: http://www.united.com/page/article/1,,53018,00.html Systemwide Upgrades can be used for a one-way upgrade to the next class of service (for example, economy to business) on eligible flights on United or United Express worldwide (see eligibility). This upgrade can be used on flights operated and marketed by United or United Express. It may also be used on Lufthansa on a limited basis. |
Can't answer but I'm using 4 SWU for Ms Glasman and I to and from OGG in August, 16FC available on flight over and have been wait listed as well. :td:

SWUs are way too valuable, in my opinion, to be using on domestic flights, particuarly Hawaii. Any road, your frustration about upgrades not clearing until closer to the time is shared by many others http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...pgrades+harder |

I hope this isn't what lies ahead of us from the CO side to the new UA. |

Why would you use 4 SWUs and not CR1s or not wait for UDU?

FYI - for the first three flights (all on UA metal) I (along with quite a few others...) was upgraded via CO/UA UDU system. Again, this may have had to do with the flights I chose, but still - no SWU needed, though there was a slight element of surprise re: upgrade going through. |
